Title: Threads in cylinder head
Post by: Athame57 on September 10, 2020, 03:10:51 AM
One of the bolts holding my cam cover to the cylinder head has a stripped thread. CB250RS woahs return to mind, getting copper inserts was a common modification of that popular dispatch riders steed. Is it also the case with the CB400F that these bolts go straight into soft ally and inserts are  a good idea?

I've not had to do it myself, yet! I believe people have used Timeserts or Helicoil inserts successfully.

I've helicoiled a good number of them very successfully. If it's one of the 2 bolts through the hollow dowels, you'll have to take the dowel out, otherwise the cam cover provides a good guide for squareness when drilling, and helps keep the swarf out.
