CB750 / That old Seeley finally lives
« on: April 20, 2015, 04:13:14 PM »
MOT'd last week, massively oversized CR31's just about jetted to the point of usability and absolutely flies! The motor is a tad smoky, I think the stem seals have gone hard, it wasn't used for years, but it seems to be getting better. They'll probably need doing at some point, but for now its just ride the arse off the thing!

CB750 / RealClassic magazine article
« on: March 17, 2015, 10:37:56 PM »
Heads up, chaps. An article wot I rote is to be in the April RealClassic magazine. It's a head to head of a BSA Rocket3 vs CB750K1. The K1 will be at the Ardingly show on the 29th March and the owner is receptive to the idea of selling it, if you fancy it.

Well, here it is:

I'm quite pleased with how it's come together, it starts easily and revs well, quite smoky, though  :-\

It hasn't been run for a looooooong time, so I'm planning to run it gently for a hundred or so miles before I start pulling off the head; sometimes hard seals soften up with use, he says, crossing fingers  ???

If anyone knows this bike, or wants to proffer any suggestions, feel free, knowledge is power and all that. I've really got no idea what lies beneath, its meant to be some sort of Yoshi engine, but you know how it goes ( don't forget, my old Dresda was owned by the Aga Khan, according to one sage I met!). It has much later forks, VFR750, I think, Grimace brakes, all really well done, I take no credit for it.

Hope you like it.

Oh, the side stand is far too short, I fitted the centre stand that came with it, but it fouls the pipe, of course!

Cheers

CB750 / More Seeley progress- stop me if I'm boring you
« on: December 31, 2014, 06:40:17 PM »
Sort of back together, temporarily, at least. Although the rest of the bike has been repainted, it looks like the tank paint is original. I found the original receipt amongst the paperwork and it was supplied in yellow. As Mr Seeley was wont to do, the tank logo is sign written, NOT a transfer  :o

I had thought about repainting it in a sort-of Gulf Porsche colour scheme, pale blue and orange. But I now have a dilemma. I like originality wherever possible, so do I leave the tank as found and redo the rest, properly ( i.e. no stick-on pinstripes!)

what say the panel?

If its becoming boring, please say and I'll stop and maybe stick a couple of pics up when its all finished.

CB750 / Seeley- first pics
« on: December 30, 2014, 02:49:48 PM »
It's up on the bench for usual service stuff and an opportunity to remake some of the connections, you know the sort of thing. PO slathered it in thick grease, so the frame is mostly excellent underneath.

Hopefully, out in the open by Sunday and try to fire the old girl up on the rollers!

New Member Introductions / Hello- I appear to have a Seeley!
« on: December 28, 2014, 10:28:42 PM »
Hi everyone, Paul from West London ( near Kempton). New member here, but not new to 750/4's. Back in the day, I worked at Dresda in Putney and have owned a few of those, plus a Rickman. finally got a Seeley last week, which appears to only need a bit of recommissioning. It's a lovely piece of kit, much more integrated a design than the Dresdas I've owned and worked on.
I'll keep you posted on progress, if you like.

A tutto gas!
Paul
