Misc / Open / Imports
« on: January 21, 2015, 08:52:58 PM »
Ok just a thought
Who's buying all these American imports?
Over the last few years I've seen hundreds if not thousands absolutely everywhere you can't move on evil bay for em ( not just talking Hondas here)...ok the uk bikes can't supply the demand  for enthusiasts ...but surely at some point the market is gonna get saturated?
And do you find genuine uk bikes reach a far higher premium ..I know I'd always pick a uk over USA all being fair?
Just thinking out loud and wondered what you guys make of it all....

Over to you

Well now look what I can do
4 in a row
3 in the roof
1 away getting mot'd and carbs balanced so that gonna screw it up a bit
But I have space to move and work on one .....

Misc / Open / The importance of oil circulation?
« on: January 08, 2015, 09:42:24 PM »
I've been cleaning the garage?
Took 12 hours to sort it all out?
Any way found these from my 450
This is what happens when someone (not me) thinks the bike looks better with no tacho drive take of so they put a lhs cam journal on the rhs so it looked real tidy......they forgot to make an oil way though???
The results are as follows

It was making a screaming noise?
But surprisingly still ran?

Just thought I would share it funnily enough it still makes me smile....I guess that why I've still got it all....???

Tricks & Tips / tyre change helpfull cheap tool
« on: October 18, 2014, 11:17:05 AM »
I saw my mate in his workshop using one of these. You might all know about this but it looked real easy so I ordered one.....makes changing a tyre a lot easier and stops you having to chase the bead around the rim...and all for under a tenner ...just hooks over a spoke and work away.....

CB500/550 / Nickel frame?
« on: September 25, 2014, 08:15:03 PM »
Why would this have a chrome / nickel frame .....or is it just a good paint job...
Was it just a P/O with access to a chroming tank...
Would look smart on a cafe racer

I like the look of it anyway ....I'd call it the "money pit"

CB350/400 / New in
« on: September 08, 2014, 01:28:59 PM »
We all like photos so here's a few of my new 400 four. 10,000 miles from new with one previous owner
The ace bars were apparently put on from new ...?
I kinda like it as is its all very original and the more I look the more it seems untouched? But I am no expert ...I'll get some more close ups soon....
The exhaust had a hole in it at the bottom of the collector.  I welded it up for now it will never be seen .....do,they all go here ...i could just about get my 3 fingers in the hole.   Is it worth putting a small 4mm ish drain hole under there to let the nasty build up out?
Currently trying to get the brake calliper arm pivot out.....after the best part of 20 years stood up
And what about that back box....very practical???

CB350/400 / Carb kits
« on: September 03, 2014, 09:18:23 PM »
Just picked up a 400 four
10 k miles
And stood for 20 years
It more than likely needs carbs rebuilt.....
Anyone used the silvers kits or are there better ones or complete sets (for 4 carbs ) available so as to not to have to order 4 kits
Thanks

Misc / Open / Honest opinions please
« on: August 27, 2014, 11:21:56 PM »
Right I've just got in from looking at a 73 cb500....
Good bits were.
Seat perfect
Rear mud gaurd perfect
A new set of later hm 323 pipes with the blurb on ...rear lhs top need a small repair but a very smart set
New nos clocks very clean
New rims all rebuilt with stainless spokes ( in fact a lot of stainless fasteners ...it's surprising how much they change the overall look of a bike....not my cup of tea)
Running very sweet
All taxed and tested ready to ride

All good up to now bad points
Tank, and panels wrong colours not a problem but tank showing signs of seepage..
Forks spongy but very straight and clean probably lack of oil
Now here's the biggy.........
The frame number does look as if some time it has been docterd .....it looks abit flat and the number 4 is very specific to these early bikes....this looked, wrong

And my question is...do you walk away now or do you think "well the guys owned it for almost 20 years and has all receipts from his purchase and all recipts for all parts purchased from DSS..including the pipes"?
And the price is probably less than the cost of all the parts if broken

Well what do you think ....I'm going to sleep on it
