Title: OUT AND ABOUT 2018
Post by: Nurse Julie on April 14, 2018, 04:45:11 PM
At last......a ride out in the sun in the UK. It seems to have been a long old winter (except when I was in India  ;D). I was desperate to go for a ride, I still haven't built the carbs for the CB400/4 to get her run in and I haven't finished the seat for the CB550 mongrel, so can't start running her in yet either. Anyways, found another old Honda at home to ride today.......felt fantastic being out riding a bike again......I hate it when I'm  not riding regularly. Stopped off for a cuppa, some nice bikes out today. The Velocette was a peach.

I had a nice ride down to Ladybower res today via Holmfirth, Holme Moss , Glossop and over snake pass. There are still some odd pockets of snow going over the pass and the road surface leave a little to be desired in parts for such a nice road. Just 100miles round trip.

Well Saturday was a fine warm sunny day so the CB750F1 was taken out of winter hibernation and cleaned up (dusted), oil change and ride planned for Sunday. However the weather had other ideas, it's been raining ever since, today is Tuesday, hopefully tomorrow I can get out and about.

Cheers

Dennis.

I really miss riding that road. I used to do Crowborough to Eastbourne then along the Beachy Head Road, over the downs by the stunning Seven Sisters along to Brighton and back to Crowborough. Never, ever got bored of that ride.

Nothing's as bad as welsh.  The welsh Gestapo have made all the signs welsh first.  Can't read the sodding things any more,  Political correctness gone mad.  If I've offended anyone - good.

His interest in food John,  does that make him a "hairy biker"?

He'll have to get the pots and pans out to prove his provenance  ;)

Unless I'm mistaken (not that unusual!) I saw your bike at the Route 11 VJMC day on Saturday before last. I was there on my CB750 (gold K2, parked in the corner near to the side of the VJMC stand).

Had I have connected the bike with this forum at the time, I would have tried to find you to say hello. I'll keep a lookout for you at future meetings. I'll either be on a CB500/4 or the 750 K2, both are in gold.

Out Sunday to local bike meeting place Newlands corner nr Guildford, couple of SOHC examples turned up.

[attachimg=1]
[attachimg=2]

Above was only SOHC until later in the day and this one arrived

[attachimg=3]

Spoke to the owner who'd recently got it but not on here though.
What a fantastic day for weather. My bike at home as when I went to start it didn't fire straight away then stopped turning. Thought it was low volts but turned out starter brushes too worn. So went out anyway to sit around talking about bikes etc.

Love the MV  8)
I managed to get out today on the Guzzi and loved it until I got home and was greeted with the sight of my CG smashed up on the drive again.  >:(  I think I'm going to have to tell my brother to forget bikes and go back to cars.
I think he has done less then 100miles since the last rebuild.  ???
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2018
Post by: K2-K6 on May 07, 2018, 06:52:20 PM
The proportions on that MV are pretty good for a replica as it seems to mask that high frame headstock quite well.

Another bike there I thought looked really good was this one

[attachimg=1]

It looks so much like the original as most of the retros don't come that close in capturing what people liked about them in the first place.

it was a great day ,I managed to put miles on both the little RD and the CB.

riding the CB straight after the  Yam showed the difference in size.

at 60 on the RD,its like threading a needle ,the CB is like wrestling  through the bends !!!

Not really, just rode till it got to the 9's then stopped to take pic, set off again until it clicked over. The photos near the stream were about 99998. The roads round there were utterly empty on Monday late afternoon.

I did the last 32K miles on this bike, I replaced a holed piston (bloody vacuum fuel taps failing causing weak mixture) and undercut 2nd and 4th gears that were slipping out occasionally. That's it though, very strong engines that I'll be expecting lots of years and miles more.
Off to Berlin on it in June, the annual XS1100 Euro rally is there this year.

Some nice rides out,  and good pictures too.

That 750 K2? Appears to have a British Yoshimura pipe on it,  supplied usually via Dixon Racing originally.

Out and about on Millie today. Wow, what a bike....it is very crisp and responsive and the exhaust sounds fantastic, not too loud that it shatters windows though. It handles like a dream and even the seat I made is comfy. All in, a very, very nice bike and great fun to ride.

what a great day! wifey and i had breakfast together then she settled down for the wedding and i headed off from sunny carmarthen to leominster. quick coffee then on to crossgates to listen to the power rangers bragging about their riding skills. on to aberystwyth for a quick stop then down the coast to cardigan, over the preseli hills to haverfordwest, then home via the tenby coast. i did around 300 miles so i treated the trusty DN-01 to a bath to cool its tyres down.

Yes Jason, I didn't want anything too loud. All I have though is the downpipes, the chrome tail pipe, which is purely decorative and Trig fitted a push in baffle from China that cost about £3 inc post !!!

Nice looking 175. You don't need lots of cubes these days to achieve big smiles per mile. I'm having as much fun running in the 250RS at up to 5.5 thousand revs as I do on the VFR  :).

Nice 175! I went to the Manx as pitcrew for a Rotax 250 in 1993, we had one of these, same colour, as a runabout.

I went on the back over the Mountain with our rider, Mad Pete Smethurst RIP,  two up. I swear he never shut the throttle once, Ramsey Hairpin to the Bungalow, where we stopped, and a surprised German on a BMW which we had just passed around the Veranda   :o came up to tell us our back tyre was flat!

'Only at the bottom!' said Pete, which confused him somewhat.

That 175 certainly brings back some memories, I sold my new CB750K2 in 1972 to get the deposit for our new house and bought one that looked exactly like that one to get around on.
I thoroughly enjoyed razzing around on it, even when the cam chain snapped and I had to carry the motor up three flights of stairs to the flat we were living in at the time while waiting for the house sale to go through..

Cheers

guessing different sizes, take the sidecar off,,swop the wheel around for solo gearing.

those bikes were way ahead of their times .
very well thought out

you know the lower mudguard  stay acted as jacks when you changed a wheel .

Moorey, great photo of the Laverda 'sidestand'. As any Laverda owner will tell you, great engineered bikes let down by the self collapsing tubular side stands! I modified mine by using a cast sidestand from a ZZR1300. I believe Ducati's suffer a similar problem with sidestands that flip up on their own accord.

Exactly John, for sidecar use to lower the gearing.
My father was a personal friend of the Vincent engineering director who raced those bikes with a chair, so the interest in sidecar use was well supported at the factory. Interestingly he once showed a Honda starter sprag clutch to dad as he was fascinated by the simplicity and effectiveness of the engineering in that component and it amazed him they'd come up with such a brilliant solution.
They (The Vincent) where very advanced with cantilever rear suspension and virtually no frame,  just all structural parts bolted to the engine.

When you go to Kirkby dont forget you can take pictures/video of the other group or riders when starting on the pad, its as good as being in it. Prime position is alongside pilot which everybody wants so its usually draw lots for it, i took the navigators seat with a bulkhead between me and pilot but just inboard from port inner merlin

We are spoilt really Dennis, having these lovely old planes so close to home and I still run out of the house to watch them when they fly over our back garden. It's a busy time of year for the BBMF and not many days go by without seeing them fly over. The Dakota takes off later too.

Beautiful aircraft. We arrived in Durham by train today just before 1pm to the sound of a Spitfire overhead. Turns out Great Northern have decaled one of their trains in RAF 100 year livery and the ceremony was in Durham Station with the RAF band. The Spitfire looked like one of the memorial flight aircraft. Needless to say it drew a huge crowd :).

Yes, that was one of the Spitfires we saw take off, it shows it going to Durham on its schedule. We have a busier schedule around here with planes than we do buses....only 2 a day!!!

I'm at the other end of the spectrum.......living a few miles from the BAE Aircraft Factory at Warton, Lancashire. Most days I can hear the Typhoons being tested overhead........mostly I hear them before I see them, as they are pretty damn quick going over my house. Fridays are busiest as they seem to build them during the week, then have a flurry of testing on Fridays.      Like Julie, I HAVE to see them and many a spannering session get's interrupted as my lickle old sparrow legs get in gear and I dash out of the garage for a looksee....usually 'just too late'.

If anyone is into WWII re-enactments, Lytham hosts a brilliant weekend over 18 - 19 August 2018 https://www.facebook.com/events/459538754427529/  We have been the last three years (since we moved here) and it's a great weekend..........there's usually a Spitfire Flypast and a static Merlin Engine start up.....bring yer ear defenders.

The mood and atmosphere are splendid, with lots of WWII vehicles on display - all in immaculate condition and many of the people who devote a lot of time and effort to preserving the past, are only too happy to talk you through the history of their Jeep/ Half Track/ Garrard Carbine/ Bren Gun etc etc. with Germans, Russians, Yanks and Brits in authentic Military Uniforms in abundance.

I'm not able to host anyone, but if anyone wants to go, just PM me and I'll happily give you the pros and cons on how to get the best out of your visit.

My Daughter and her Husband have just moved up here from 'darn sarf' so I am working on how I can 'borrow' his de-activated Lewis Gun or his Lee Enfield .303" Rifle for the weekend so I can join in the frolics !

RAF Coningsby is home to two frontline, combat-ready squadrons and is the training station for Typhoon pilots so we have plenty of them flying around Monday to Friday 9-5. The Typhoon display team are also based there and watching and listening to them practicing in the air is fantastic.

Yes, the Vulcan IS the best ever aircraft in my book. Awesome sound with amazing agility.
I have booked a flight in a Spitfire from Biggin Hill as my retirement present to myself in August, its very expensive (could have bought another bike) but my uncle flew Hurricanes as a pilot sergeant in the Battle of Britain from Kenley and it has always been my dream to fly in a Spitfire, I can't wait for the big day  :).

We are going to have to do this on our next trip to the UK... last time we did the Norton Factory tour and watched some BSB practice at Donington but that was before I joined this wonderful forum or had the joy of owning a SOHC (400/4).
The better half has family at Bradford and we always get a car so we will just need to plan the trip around some good shows and try to get to some bike meets as well.. note to self... Must start planning.

The Vulcan was most impressive, the noise was unbelievable you could feel your insides vibrating when they piled on the coals, enjoy your Spitfire flight, it will be an amazing experience.

Nah, that was sour grapes from the Frogs, withdrew it's certificate of airworthiness after theirs crashed, in spite of B.A. spending a fortune modifying the fuel tanks and refurbing the interiors. Bloody Frogs!

Took Millie across the Cat and Fiddle today from Buxton to Macclesfield and back again. I have always wanted to ride along what was (probably still is) Britain's most dangerous road. Millie survived and so did I but not knowing the road at all, it was a bit if a wobble at times around some very tight hair pins. The pub, the Cat and Fiddle has closed down, not sure when but local bikers say its due to the speed cameras and 50mph speed limit on the road. It used to be a big bike meeting place but not now, which is a shame.

Another great days riding in Derbyshire in glorious weather. Part of todays ride was Ladybower Reservoir to Glossop via the notorious Snake Pass and back to the reservoir. Up hill down dale and very twisty, the scenery is fantastic. Plus a stop off at Matlock Bath for a cuppa and some people watching.

Just saw Triggers comments re short lived Blades, my mate Leigh took his very new Blade to Oulton for a track day, didn't finish the first lap after he chucked it at the scenery where the camber drops away at Lodge Corner..... damaging it bigly.

Here's a couple of recent rally shots I've been meaning to post, first is the NABD rally, the tricyclists with the caravan left to the news of a 25 mile tailback on the M6...  :)  ;)

Second is the Farmyard Party, with Dunscombe Hall in the background. The photo time on my phone says 04:39, and yes, I was on my way to bed....

I gave her the second oil change at the weekend, 2200 miles, first was at 200 just to clean out any odd bits after the rebuild.

So it's not just me that can't even get up to 50mph on these roads let alone stay under 50mph !!!😊😊😊 Both Snake Pass and the Cat and Fiddle have average speed cameras. The local bikers go flat out between the cameras, then stop and wait a minute, then go flat out again.

One bike there was stunning. It was built from boxes of bits by a chap we know who lives in our village. It's a Moto Guzzi, 1946 I think, other than that I know nothing about it at all. An absolute peach though. Edit, just worked out it is a 1949 Airone Sport 250cc.[attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

We went for a ride to Marlow in Bucks on Saturday. I took the Morini the O/H took the rebuilt CB250RSA to clock up the final 50 miles before it's 500 mile service.
Traffic was awful on the A40 due to the world cup so we came back on the M40 for the last 10 miles but keeping speed down to 55. The 250 siezed solid! 2 hour wait for recovery.
I begun to strip the engine down yesterday, not a pretty site. Holed and melted piston, scored barrel, scored cam and bits of piston under the valves.
Not sure what to do now, if I buy another engine I won't know its history and most engines for sale are out of the bike so buying blind. I can get the cam reprofiled and maybe try and salvage the valves or buy new and get the seats cut if damaged? I'm not sure about the crank until I get to it but likely to need new mains, maybe I'll try SEP to rebuild it, anyone used SEP?
It's a shame as the O/H loves riding the bike now she has passed her test but it looks like that's it for the Summer for her :(

Wow, what a shame after all your hard work in rebuilding it.

Do you have a close picture of the spark plug tip? And which grade of plug is it? Hope you don't mind me asking.

Nigel.
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2018
Post by: Laverda Dave on July 10, 2018, 11:48:51 AM
Hi Miguel, I'll dig it out when I get home, just going into London to watch the flypast. It was new and the correct plug.
The piston has done some damage to the barrel as in its scored. When I drained the oil there was about 1/2 litre but it was on the mark 200 miles ago. No leaks and no sign of burning oil either (I rode behind the O/H to check). I noticed the air box was covered in an oil mist when I stripped it and assume this was blow by as the piston melted!
I would like to rebuild this engine (again) depending on cost. Do you have any recommendations for who can rebuild the crankshaft?
Dave

Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2018
Post by: Laverda Dave on July 10, 2018, 04:09:39 PM
Here you Nigel. The plug is a NGK DR8ES as detailed within the Haynes Manual and bought new.
Just going back into the garage to finish the strip down and initial assessment of the damage. Looking at the bits of piston in the sump it appears as though the gearbox has mashed a lot of the shrapnel into powder!
Thanks for the tip Julie. I may require his services!
At least the flypast took my mind off the carnage  :-\
Title: Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2018
Post by: sye on July 10, 2018, 04:48:21 PM
The holed piston may be as a result of too lean a mixture or detonation (pre ignition). Check plug colour, timing and mixture are correct when rebuilt.

Post by: Laverda Dave on July 10, 2018, 10:36:16 PM
Sorry, I forgot to add the photo of the plug. Here goes.
The crankshaft small end bearing is beyond repair so it's refurb crankshaft if possible. Thanks for the tip Julie. I will add any progress details to my previous rebuild thread and not hijack this one!

Yes, that's the same one Oddjob. I've enquired about the one in the breakers, is the cam OK etc and the reply I got was to come and see it! Like I'm going to travel 130miles to see a potential heap of junk, no customer service at all (angry thread >:(). The other engine has broken fins and missing bolts etc, so not worth it. I have stripped my engine down and it's not looking like it should go in a skip. Needs a crank rebuild as small end is toast (scored).
Ideally I'd like an electric start motor but these are very hard to come by and not very reliable from what I've heard. The dilemma is the O/H really struggles with the kick-start even though it has a decompresser. Looks like I'll rebuild this and sell it straight away to fund a newer CB250 such as a nighthawk or something. I'll add any updates to my original cb250rs rebuild thread.

I don't mind a trip to Spalding for a member, only 45 mins away. Always a gamble with any secondhand motor, you can't see inside the bloody things.

Graham, thanks very much for the offer to inspect the engine for me but like you say, it's always a bit dodgy buying a second hand engine. These particular engines are not the most robust either at the top end. I'm just cleaning my engine now, the damage isn't too bad considering. I can get a next up rebore of 0.50 if I can get a piston. I'll get the cam reprofiled by Newmans. The crank will need a new cobrod and I've been touch with the company recommended by Nurse Julie. Only problem so far is obtaining the r/H main bearing, the one with the undercut on the circumference, nobody has one, even CMSNL. A few companies on ebay say they have them but don't answer if I ask if they have the undercut, I suspect they are just plain bearings available anywhere. I'll keep trying, might have to get a used crank.

The RS250 engines were never the best of Honda's 250. You have to get a bike with a Honda KB4 engine next time  ;)

As to why it happened, delving deep into the memory I remember a 400N (twin) that holed a LH piston and I rang Honda dealer Tech for advise. They said that there had been a few worldwide that although the strobe timing came up OK in the workshop were found to have been advancing too far and holed pistons. The problem was the only cure was a new alternator stator that came complete with rotor and in 83 ish cost over £300, when we checked honda parts said that due to better quality control of parts we could order just the stator under a different number for about£180---guess what, when it arrived we got bot stator and rotor for the £180.

Never had a decent reason as to what went wrong with the stators but replacement did cure it and i think the 250RS had a similar ignition system

Good grief I didn't realise that they still held meetings there I haven't been to one there since the mid 1980's, now that I know I will have to keep a look out, these days we prefer to watch club racing usually at Oulton.

Out and about on the small back lanes over the Lincolnshire Wolds on the CD250u's today. These little bikes are brilliant for these roads, which are mainly single track with grass growing in the middle of them and usually only frequented by tractors or, this time of year, combines.

Yes John, a lazy 4 stroke is the perfect description of the perfect bike for these roads. So easy to ride, handle superbly on dodgy road surfaces but still do 70 mph no problem at all when you get back out on the main roads. I have done these lanes on Hettie, the 400/4 and she absolutely hates them, all those gear changes up hill down dale are a pain in the arse. The CB550/4 is a better on the lanes but she is just a tad too powerful.

Dead jealous of all these fine photos, went out with my mate last Friday for a spin out to Betws y Coed from Chester, the ride there wasn't too bad some light rain but on the way back the heavens opened, so I spent an hour riding home in pouring rain. Found out that my boots, leggings and gloves all leaked like sieves, however as I have not ridden in torrential rain since the 1980's it was a learning curve and I will be a lot more confident if caught out in the rain in the future.

Cheers

Went out for the afternoon on the F1, decided to have a wander around the Wirral, it's a peninsular so even I couldn't get lost, I wanted to ride around the coast.
The weather stayed fine for once and it was going well until I was in sight of New Brighton when I came across a road block as there was a fire further ahead. Tried bypassing the block but failed miserably so I retraced my steps and came home.

Had a lovely few hours out on Hettie the CB400/4 today. I haven't ridden her that much over the past  few weeks due to it being so hot but today was perfect at 20 degrees for a good ride. They are hot running bikes at the best of times and with the temps having been in the 30's I have been using the CB550/4. Hettie has now done almost 1000 miles since all the engine work and she is running beautifully. The engine is nice and loose now, very free reving and responsive, a right little pocket rocket.......so much fun.

not out and about as such, but i caught a bus to chepstow this morning and rode my new vtr back to carmarthen in the rain.  had a few hairy moments after giving it a few handfuls.  mental bike!

Looks great, shame about the rain though, it's held off here so we popped down to Oulton Park for the club racing, nice day out.

Out at a bike night at the Aviation Heritage Centre just along the road from us at East Kirkby where they have the privately owned AVRO Lancaster. Huge turn out of bikes, probably well over 500, of all sorts. Forum member Rusty Nuts was in attendance, we bump in to each other quite often at bike nights in Lincs, he wasn't on his SOHC tonight though.

I don't know if it belongs to a woman or man Paul. It's parked up at quite a few of the bike nights / meets we go to but i have never seen the owner. I think whoever it belongs to just brings it along in a ruck sack and plonks it there for show....typical Harley owner i suppose. Can you imagine trying to get all the flies and midges out of that lot  ;D ;D ;D

We have bike nights every night of the week in Lincolnshire at all different places. We went to a different one tonight at the Duke of Wellington Pub in Leasingham near Sleaford. Not a huge turn out of bikes but great fish and chips. But......this pulled in. Ridden by a woman, with a female friend on the back seat. Whatever this thing is, it's bloody hideous but they were happy so that's all that matters 😏😏😏😏😏 [attachimg=1]

Box Hill......looks over where we used to live in Brockham. There was a CB 400RR/ VFR 400 Importer who had a Garage on Box Hill when I lived there in the early 2000's. I bought a Japanese Import CB750 (DOHC) from BAT Motorcycles at Biggin Hill but it died when the throttle was opened quickly. I took it to the place on Box Hill and they sorted out the Limiter and it flew after that. Commuted into London for about 6 months on that bike.........one of the few bikes I sold for more than I originally paid for it (that's why I remember it) !

including Ford GT40 and VERY expensive Ferarris ,even A35 and A 40 racers !!!

I used to ride to the cricketers pub in Sarratt near Watford on I think, Wednesday nights a few years ago. Plenty of bikes always in attendance but always modern stuff so got a bit repetitive (and the drinks and burgers were really expensive). I don't know if it still happens, the rich locals kept complaining about the noise and crowds of bikers looning around 'their' roads.

Out and about in the East Riding of Yorkshire today on the two CD250u's. Up over the Humber Bridge from Lincolnshire to Hull, a quick visit to Ash (imotoK0) for a cuppa and then a ride along the coast to Spurn Point, well as far as you can get along Spurn Point on wheels. Then up to Withernsea and back along some lovely winding roads to Hull, back over the bridge and over the Lincolnshire Wolds to home. Beautiful riding weather, lovely and sunny and not too hot. Perfect. About 160 miles.

I will have a look tomorrow for a make, its one I had given to try out. For the size of it, it makes a massive difference especially with mine having US bars on. It takes the strain off your neck when just sat at 80/90 No doubt would be even better with UK bars. I wouldn't want to be without it now. I would replace it immediately if something were to happen to it. I had to reshape and re-drill the fixing points to drop it down so it sat closer to the headlamp.

I saw this CBX, a real work of art with a home made and polished frame. The exhaust sounded great. The owner took two years to build it and said he preferred to ride a sidecar!

Put another 100 miles on the 400 doing the Hoggin the Bridge  ( no g ) About 10 000 bikes showed up and totally filled up Aust Services.  Plenty of people of all ages on the route, with the kiddies holding their hands out to be high-fived by us riders.  Most of the bikes were new stuff and Harleys, but there was some interesting old bikes too.  The only Honda SOHC (other than mine) was a collection of ratty step thru's.  Nice talking to the owners though.

The whole Quayside is full of fish and chip shops, cafes, restaurants etc. We had a cuppa on a big old boat permanently moored to the quay wall, Grahams worse nightmare as he suffers terribly from sea sickness ☺☺☺ Yes, nice riding roads around that way.

Found an interesting place not far from home the other day. Barkham Street in Wainfleet, near Boston looks just like a street in London and that was the intention when it was built. I think the CB750 and the CB550 look quite at home there 😀

Nice photo Julie. If it wasn't for the cars it would be a scene from the 70's  :).

We bunked off work today, just because we can  ;D Another stunning day here in Lincs so took the two tiddlers up into the Wolds for a few hours. Warm, sunny, loads of other bikers out as well. We do have cliffs in Lincs, man made but its still a cliff 😀😁 This was near Normanby le Wold, the highest point in Lincs at 551 feet above sea level and everyone thinks Lincs is flat 🙄

My early morning plan to ride to the Cabin Dairy Tearooms in Burnham-on-Crouch was scuppered by the non-forecast rain.
So dusted off the old iron cage and went for a burn up with my father in law in his latest acquisition.

Well I did think of you when I suggested it, but of course you are not in Dungeness anymore. How come you always blagged it? We paid £20 for entrance and £10 for Paddock Hill stand (free seating on Sat). Good value.

Anyway, it was a glorious day and as my mum would have said, "you've caught the sun!". Great day's racing and legged it round some parts of the circuit - there's so little time between the action and you don't want to miss anything.

Of interest here is this, on show outside some outfit called Slipstream Tuning :)

Gosh, Slipstream have been around for ever, that bike looks nice. It looked a lovely day there, a bit blowy I bet. I used to get in free because I know a couple of the team managers and a couple of the BSB riders really well.

That's a good looking interpretation I think.

I'm never really sure about a shortened rear guard etc, but the rest I think looks great. Nice to see something different.

Very nice. I suppose you get used to going out riding in the rain in Scotland. We have a friend in Northern Ireland, i think he's managed to get out twice this year on his bikes due to it always being raining on Saturdays and Sundays.....his days off.

After 5 years of hibernation I finally got round to completing the recommissioning the 120 Jolly Jota today and took it for it's first ride. I travelled to Wendover, a 50mile jaunt. Yep, I know it's not a SOHC but it does have clocks off the CB750F  :o! I forgot how heavy Jota's are and how they kill your wrists!

Paul, that's very true as was the backache I woke up to yesterday, I've lost what I call my Jota fitness! As Bryan pointed out, it's all worth it for the noise, at 4000 revs it's like a Vulcan is flying directly overhead. I stopped to take my earplugs out to enjoy it more ;D.

It was a good event John. I took the car, sod it travelling 100 miles on a bike in those conditions!
I arrived at 8:30 as previous years found it to be packed by midday.
The Steve Plater interviews with John McGuiness, Trevor Nation, Mick Grant, Stuart Garner and Simon (I've forgotten his second name! 🙄) was a highlight, very funny and off the cuff comments from all. John's honesty about his crash on the Honda was something else.
Some good deals on the Seale trade stand, I bought a full set of lock on sockets for my rounded nuts 😳 for £17. BTW, I was told that Sealey now provide a lifetime warranty on all their tools.

I went to a small cafe near Brands Hatch on Sunday & spotted a bike that reminded me of my youth, namely a rather nice looking CB550F1 that the owner had imported from the usa & was doing an excellent job of bringing it to as close to UK spec as possible

I chatted for some time with the owner, who was doing his best to source a new F1/F2 silencer & had managed to find a NOS item, but baulked at the idea of spending $1500...YES $1500... on this much sought after part. When I mentioned that i'd bought probably the last one in the UK a few years ago for my wife's CB550F2, for around £100, he said that people would easily pay that amount nowadays.

And yes, I did mention sohc.co.uk

I was riding my all year bike, the Exup & enjoyed the warm bright & dry conditions

He's doing a nice job, great colour.
It's a sellers market for unobtainable parts these days. I paid £23 for a NOS black plastic bung that fits on the kick-start knuckle on my 400/4. I had to wait a couple of years before one eventually turned up on ebay in Germany. At least it was a new one!
