Hi
The dismantling of my 400 is going well (so far!!) - I now need to remove the chain and need a chain splitter/riveter. Can anyone recommend me a good one - there seems to be a big difference in cost between different makes. Do you get what you pay for? My every day bike has a shaft drive so chains, and especially the tools are a bit of a dark art to me!! :-\
Thanks
Steve

Angle grinder to remove and a cheap splitter/riveter to peen the rivet

It has probably got a spring link fitted if you look at it carefully. Can't see why anyone would fit an endless chain to a bike of that vintage. That said, if you're stripping it right down remove the wheel spindle, unhook the chain to remove the wheel, remove front sprocket and release chain from there, then the chain is freed when you remove the swinging arm.

Or do as Hairy do. ;)

Thanks Gents
It is indeed a brand new endless chain (I did look for a spring link), and set of sprockets as fitted by the previous owner - he did sufficient to get an MOT, but then didn't have time to carry out the restoration. I have a new chain and sprockets on one side and a new exhaust on the other with an old bike in the middle!!
Thanks for the advice and the 2 options
Cheers Steve
