On a happier note to St Clair, we will be at your fabulous Classic Motor show in Shetland in June, hope to see you there! Ian
I shall be there Ian - look for my CB400F on display - what are you bringing?

You are not alone!
I had precisely the same experience last October, buying a bike on SORN. When I finally got to speak an 'adviser' I actually found him to be friendly and helpful - he posted out a form to me and, a couple of days after I returned it, all was well.
Strange way of going about things but the worst bit was, as you said, the 76 options. After that it was quite straighforward.
'Twas a bit breezy in these parts yesterday, as well.

I see mention of the old Norwich Union policy in earlier posts - I used that for many years, and when it changed to Aviva I just carried on...... I still have the same policy number an' all. It's a little more expensive than it was, but there's a broker here in Shetland so it's worth the extra bit to be able to actually talk to someone........Cars and house are with the NFU, for much the same reason - I'd have the bikes with them as well if they did bike policies The drawback, such as it is, is that it's limited to four bikes, so the Fanny-B had to come off it when I got the Honda last year.

What's the longest they've taken to hang up, Steve?

I answer politely, ask them to hold on for a moment while I close the door/turn on the light/swith off the kettle........... then walk away - they've normally hung up after a couple of minutes

Shetland still seems to be mostly in one piece - some relatively minor damage to the odd truck, a gritter went off the road the other day (no-one badly hurt), a couple of roofs gone missing, and small boats damaged. Thanks for asking

Thanks gentlemen, for your replies - will the standard system support those lamps, or do I have to make any modifications? Drew; thanks to you too, it's nice to have one's wit (?) appreciated

Hi folks, What are your preferences, please, for improving the headlamp performance? The beam seems to kinda dribble out of the lamp, bounce off the mudguard, and then fade into insignificance......... or...... the lamp is rubbish - help! Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ian! I remember C&D very well - used to get my M.O.T. tests done there. I had my Huntmaster/Steib S501 outfit there on one occasion and, having been told in the usual way to "go away and come back in an hour", I wandered over to the cafe on the other side of the road. I sat there watching. After 45mins or so, a chap in a boiler suit came out carrying a note-book. He wrote down the reg., the mileage and the engine & frame numbers, turned the lights on and off, then went back inside. (might have sounded the horn, too) I waited another 10 minutes, then went back to the shop. "Yes sir, your bike's fine, here's the test certificate, that'll be......however much........" I thought 'I'll come here again' :-) I haven't been there since '87, but it's nice to know they're still operating. Sounds like you've a great variety of bit & bobs - my problem is lack of space (and the limited patience of my good lady wife - though 5 bikes ain't bad) or I'd be operating on the mathematical formula n+1, to describe the ideal number of bikes an individual should own Give me a shout if you're up this way.........
