All done, just waiting for registration and forks to sort as they are a bit 'clunky' for some reason. Having a rest from resto's for a while - they are wearing me out (and my bank account!)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210402/e8fdfba510bbfef83ae8b2500e8dd632.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210402/80ccce8a0aee732364061612994dc755.jpg)

That looks fantastic Phil, it's a real credit to you.

nice one phil well done
-
Very nice work and what a transformation.
Those original colours too, many have been changed over the years but yet to see one that could even get close to that.
-
Really lovely,
Great result

Fantastic job as always Phil. Looks superb in gold. Pictures are still crap though.

Resized the pictures instead of of my phone - should be better

That's better Phil does the bike justice now. I had forgotten what a goitty mess it was before you started.

Great job Phil! Nice clear pictures too!! 😄😄
-
Great job. Beautiful work. 👍
-
Well done. So many think and dream of doing that... but few can and do. Stunning.
-
Great job and the best paint work colour too. I prefer the Big 750 clocks on the K2
to the small 350 type clocks on the K0/K1

Great work Phil well done!

It just missed Ken, it's the main stand that's the problem - it misses the stop by about 20mm and have made a stainless steel extension plate (that bolts through rubber stop hole) since the picture was taken

Exact same thing happened on my 350F, I had to make a 38mm spacer out of aluminium. Makes you wonder if the exhaust makers ever trial fit their own products, if they did they would know about the problem.

That looks absolutely great Phil.. I deliberated over having Menno do my K0 tank Candy Gold but as it was originally Candy Jet (Jade) Green,so I had it done in Green in the end. I don't think Menno had done one that green shade before and I seem to remember he ended up having to use a blue metallic base coat below the candy green, not silver.
I love the later K2 style large clocks myself, so I re-furbed the original 'CB250' small style ones but I also got a nice set of the later clocks, chrome dishes and bracket plus a set of faces from Marcel and I will fit the later ones to my bike ... the only deviation from standard apart from a Cibie headlamp. If I ever sell it and the buyer doesn't like the K2 ones, then I still have the originals to refit.

That looks really good, nice to see another one saved.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments about the bike. This has been my best build of the bikes I've done I think (not the hardest - that was the CR Rep!), puely down to experience. I've used better quality bits like DID rims compared to the cheaper rims I fitted to my 750k2 that I started about 10 years ago and the knowledge I've gained from forum members over the last 10 years, you pick up subconsious info on other bikes you don't own/work on that benefits you when you subsequently do get that bike - for example, when I built my 750k2, I thought the earlier forks that I had with (the basket case) bike where wrong and changed them for the later model not knowing the 75 UK K2 retained those earlier forks. But it does put the cost up!
Need to sort the clunky forks though. As you know, the forks on the 500 have the rod that screws into the fork cap (which is different to any other forks I've worked on before. Any tips on assemby of these forks particularly for when I re-check them? They've got rechromed tubes by Philpotts, new seals and oil (no seal leaks) and re-assembled as per taken out and as per manual diagrams. Sounds like springs scraping when depressed

Lovely restoration Phil. Silk purse from a cows ear.
I agree about the experience thing 100%, life in general I guess. Certainly as you get older you learn to stop and think a problem through or ask for advice instead of reaching for a hammer to make it fit!
This forum and the people and knowledge on it has certainly helped me in my restorations and not just on sohc's. The best internet forum by a long, long way.

I couldn't agree more Dave. Brilliant forum. Now, donations time yet especially the new faces?

I've started it off - donated

Roy ever thought of using a door stop, they are roughly the same shape and probably better for the stand to hit against being rubber.
Now that's not a bad idea. They may be a bit short but I could make a packing piece.

Cheers Phil. I thought I had better move the donations thing to another place so I have started a Donations thread.

I use rubber mounts for stands if the old ones are missing/unavailable or needing to be longer.

We had tons of them unused at work with studs both ends so I'd simply stanley knife off one of the studs.
