Thanks Jon, I feel like I'm cheating my rebuild build not breaking into the engine but its fine and just needs a tidy up and some paint and will look and run like new.

Of course if she develops an issue later down the road we can tackle it then.. but even after a rebuild problems can occur so I'll leave alone for now!

You have stated the obvious.. thanks of course that explains why the collar looks homemade and the centre shaft also looks wrong.. someone has bodged it basically as the centre shaft has seized.

Cheers

I am keen to watch this thread!!

Out of interest would you only strip if there was an issue.. my 76 has done 31k, runs fine, no smoke, no rattles and revs and pulls nicely. I see so many people doing refurbs that strip the engine.

As I have no issues I'm tempted to give the 400 a good service, lick of fresh paint , and a full tune up and get some miles on her... and see how she does. Would most agree this is the best policy?

CB350/400 / cb400f - Centre Stand
« on: October 03, 2017, 11:23:57 AM »
Hi all, can someone help..  I've had the frame all done on my CB400f and my painter took the stand off. We have now relised there must be two spacers/collars to support the stand, I've found one.. but the shaft is tapered on the other side.. should there be two collars please?

Anyone that can help would be great!

I may only run a side stand on this bike but I still want all the parts.

Wheels are back.. apologies as they are not OEM but this is the look I want.. stickers come off but I'm really pleased with them. I can comfortably fit a 120 rear tyre now.

Ha ha... I know, just ordered more bits from David Silvers as some bits are not able to refurbish.. new brake line was a bargain at £4.95 though and treated it to a new stand spring as the old one is very rusty and quite on show.

Picked this bike up a few years ago.. was in ok condition and the most offensive part was the colour as it was an awful blue. Well you know what its like, you take a few bits off and find some things you don't like and the next thing you are looking at a nut and bolt restoration, it looks tidy but some awful bodge jobs, wiring awful and she needed some help. This will be a little different.. no cutting of the frame but I plan to make it my own with a few tweaks, I love this little bike but just want to make it look OEM but in a 2017 version...  wheels will be very cool using 2.1 front and 2.5 rear rims..!

Ok great so the spare green is just an earth.. so I can tape it up?

I'm using a yamaha XS750 combined unit as I have a spare.. has exactly the same plug and 2 rectifier outputs just like the David Silver upgrade.

I'm just in the process of rebuilding my CB400f... while the frame is away I'm sorting the loom. A quick question I'm upgrading to a reg/rec combined unit, my new one has two feed wires, white and black but the original rectifer has a green wire also... does anyone know if this can be ignored ?

Thank you

Yes I thought it should be ok and then read the manual.. and noted to slacken first. I'll check the tolerances many thanks!
