Just got this!!! (In full again)

"When you buy any vehicle you do not receive the V5 directly
we sell many bikes without documents to realistic customers as we can also sell this one without V5
And for more money!"
-----
Love that word 'realistic'.... plainly I'm a git for not unquestionably handing over a big wad to a shady dealer...!!!

Ho hum..

Ash... Due the (numerous) historical emails in this, with me being polite / accommodating all along, versus his unfriendly / mounting excuses not to sell I reckon I'd have a strong case.... assuming an ebay human reads it!

But frankly, it's only a bike, and not a special one at that, worse things happen at sea etc. I'll take my pleasure out in the feedback area and walk away.

You live & learn eh?

Simon

Thanks fellas,
Love this forum!

My last email to him...

"David, agreed, I've not seen it. But you wrote "the bike is excellent and £1,000 cheap", and the seller wrote, "this classic bike is better than it was in the showroom in 1977".
And on those 2 accolades, alongside the ebay photos I'm prepared to accept your words.

I've done all that's required of me, including checking up (before bidding) that you could hold it a couple of weeks. You / the seller have had all this time to check / realise V5 etc in place.

The ebay ad clearly states that the bikes V5 is present.. as copied you.

It is not my fault that a delay might now occur because a new V5 is needed, and not a reasonable reason for you to break a contract.

And for you to state on (an ebay forum) to me that a new buyer wants (a mint / £3000+ motorbike) "without a V5" does rather suggest something underhand is happening.

As I've said all along, the balance of £xxxx awaits you when the bike is kindly delivered. If you refuse to deliver it... I can arrange collection.

This ought not to be the drama it's shaping up... I just want to take ownership as agreed in the ebay terms & conditions.

So, please seek a new V5. Let me know when you have it & I'll take delivery of the bike.
Simon"

...... and then this response...(in full!)

"We have a buyer that accepts no V5
There is nothing under handed
Either take it without the V5 or we will sell it"

------
Hmmm, as I say, niceties are not his forte...

There are plenty more SS50s out there, I know, but it's become a bloody case of the red mist. (You've only seen 1/10 of the emails) In the last 2 mins I've written him my account details, and said I'll take a refund... with ..."If you do this you are breaking a binding contract"

I'll not loose sleep over it, but rather take my pleasures out on ebay feedback, along with any other suggestions you guys might have!

Simon.

Ladies / Gents...help please; I've not a lot of experience with ebay.

Recently 'won' an ebay auction on a 'better than new' SS50, rebuilt at a cost of £4000. (apparently). (got it significantly below this number) Lots of glowing words, including the fact that it has V5 (dealer selling for a friend who could no longer use it).
I paid a deposit & it was due to be delivered to my dad's / Basingstoke last Saturday.

Except on Sat a one sentence email "The Honda will be delivered Sunday 16:00" (the seller doesn't do small talk / social niceties)
I write back along the lines of "Fine, don't forget to send the V5 along; I'll complete it & send it DVLA"
Shirty reply, "I'm a dealer, I know about V5s and it's me who has to send it off"
My reply, "Ok, but I still need to see it / sign" before I hand over the balance"
His reply, "Looking for it..."
And then, "Lost it... will refund your deposit"

I said not acceptable; and that a replacement V5 can be got from the DVLA...

Today's email, "I can't get a V5 easily, and besides someone else wants to buy it without the V5. Will refund your deposit" (why would anyone want a mint / expensive bike without a V5???)

So guys.... I've all the time in the world, and can be bloody minded if I want to be.
And in this case I do.

In the last few minutes I've sent him a copy of the ebay advert which clearly stated the V5 is present. My gut feeling is that he's been offered a better price since the auction ended & he's trying to get out of the deal.

Best way to go about this... I'm determined to make trouble! (and of course I realise that its unlikely I'll get the bike if he's determined not to sell it)

Alas... that bloody fuse box cover does go walk-about as it were. I was in the same boat as you but ended up buying a whole new fuse box...

Good luck in your hunt!

Hi Drew,

Your unit is actually a regulator / rectifier... ie those two spare wires are for the regulator part of the circuit.

(and consequently you can remove the OEM regulator - ie 'black box' with G/W/B connections - first pic.)

If Honda compatible the black will connect to the loom feed which went to the OEM regulator (& is +12v DC @ ignition ON)
If Honda compatible the white will connect to the loom feed which went to the OEM regulator (& connects to the alternator)

(The left over GREEN (ie earth) from your (removed) OEM regulator can be taped up out of the way - your reg/rectifier unit has already got its earthing from the rectifier loom plug on the battery side of the bike)

The final (embarrassing) pic is my 750K2 as PO had wired it. Hmmm. The unit does look like yours... and indeed it did work, so I'd probably be confident to give it a try...

Hope this helps,
Simon

Until you get a better posting.... try a quality hobby shop? I mess about with RC Micro / quadcopters etc... there are some tiny fasteners on these....

Whether they'll be same thread etc cannot say...

CB350/400 / Exhaust silencer bracket - do I need it?
« on: February 15, 2015, 07:23:03 AM »
Hi Drew,

The bracket is only applicable to frame numbers after 1056883; and to bikes imported to England, Europe Direct, France, Germany & Sweden.... ie the later European frames with the loops.

Ie, as said, yours doesn't need the bracket (part #62 in the diagram)

Cheers,
Simon

What a bloody pain Mick... kinda enforces my concerns & glad I didn't bother tracking down a dealer. Maybe indeed 'soft tappets' were never a design fault...but rather crappy servicings. On the good side you're getting intimate with it from day #1!

Agreed... love it when you blip the throttle at idle... sort of an "ohh-er!" moment after the silky 4s.

Am I missing something ref keeping the 'plates off a public domain? Ie, Adsa, B&Q, Woolies car parks are a place to spot bikes too... cripes, you can even now get their frame numbers if so inclined. So why the concern over virtual domain versus car parks???

Aye carrumba! Great Mick... hope you enjoy it.

Yea Julie, these things happen! I first saw 'my' Griso in a bloody showroom in Melbourne / Oz, and inexplicably kept returning to it time after time...just drooling. Came home ... and saw one on ebay. Did something naughty (as I HAD to have it) and contacted the seller mentioning that I wouldn't be around til the end of the auction (truth)...and at what price would he take it off for? The stars aligned (whatever)... and 2 days later it was in my sticky mits. Love it when a plan comes together....

Interestingly, this Oz bike was A$27000 (new); back then abouts £17000 at the rate of ex. In the UK it was circa £11K.... the Ozzies do get stung.

Mick... maybe we'll have to get pooling spares!!!

And don't forget to post a pic...

Hi again,

I've never 'thought' for one minute about the 'stretch' you talk of; I rode it 3 hrs through bloody London once in 27 degrees (M25 issues) and dismounted feeling relatively fresh. (I'm 5'8")
(though as Tom's alluded to... it pulls like a bloody train and maybe my arms have been stretched)

What I especially like about it is the low seat (800mm I think) - makes town so much easier. (esp as it is pretty heavy when not moving).

The major 'comfort' comment I would have would be hand grip vibration - but if you're gonna buy a big V-twin you deserve all you get in this department! With this & the 140 mile range it's prob not the perfect touring machine... (thankfully it seems to have a reliable fuel level warning!)

I had a quick re-visit to the 'soft tappet' issue... a few comments were critical of valves likely mis-set - by poor servicing - ie not a design fault.

My machine had only done 950 miles when I bought it; I was keen to preserve its 'dealership' service record... but Internet accusations of dubious servicing, and the fact that I couldn't easily find a dealer near me (Basingstoke) put me off. So I did the 1000 mile service myself.... easy.

Basically then, I've delved (to a point) with various panels off, rocker covers etc... and the build quality is seen every where; whether it be welds, brackets, loom supports, quality fixings, Japanese-like electrical boots / connectors and beautifully milled alloy components. I've never stripped a BMW, but honestly, I can't fault what I see on the 'Guzzi.

Your Pegaso sounds like a character (!)... and this perhaps explains your attachment to it. I'll say again, the Griso is not refined in terms of modern standards, but it too has character, and besides, what price beauty? (well, to me)

Simon.

(PS - if you do go ahead, and assuming its like the Griso, make sure you get the 'code' to reset the spanner icon which appears as you approach each service. This code (as I remember) is imperative if you loose a key.. without it you might be stuffed. )
