As a Honda fanatic in mid 70s I idolised Phil Read on his Honda Britain.I was on the Isle of Man when he lost to Mike Hail wood and was gutted!! They sat don't meet your hero but I did many times at classic bike events and he couldn't have been more pleasant and accomodating.I own 2 Phil Read Replicas and run the Honda Britain owners club which covers such bikes.Ill be watching this thread with alot of interest..

It is an F2 engine..unfortunately I've no idea who built it and their knowledge of the F2 model..a mate of mate bought a restored Phil Read Replica and the engine came as a spare and ready to fit. I'm bothered that a seal has been wrongly fitted so the oil isn't finding its way down to the sump.If I can lift the cam cover I'll pour oil down and see if it drains down or backs up..

Hi all, last year I bought a newly rebuilt engine for my Phil Read Replica from a friend to kick-start a stalled project. After carburation problems I got it running but it was chucking spots of oil out of the cut down exhaust. Not just a dribble..it left splatters on a car parked 10 feet away!! When I took the exhaust off, the oil was coating the inside of pipes 2 and 3.. Has anyone got a clue what might be causing this?Is it possible that the oil that lubricates the cam and valves isn't draining down into the sump and is sliding past the valves into the combustion chamber? As I can't take the cam cover off without taking the engine out the frame, I will consider any options rather than that.. John W.

The HBOC has been running for around 10 years and has just clocked up its 50th member via this forum. The owners club is specifically for the Phil Read Replica and Honda Britain limited edition derivative of the CB750F2 produced by Colin Seeley in 1978/79. We have now found about 70% of the 150 Phil Read Replica and 100 of the 250 Honda Britains produced. If any of you had one of these models or still have one stuck in a corner of your garage, drop me a message and I ll see if its on my ever growing list...John White

Hi Joe....i run the Honda Britain Owners Club and have the only database of all the known and surviving Honda Britain's and Phil Read Replicas..That particular Honda Britain was not known to the club so I do not know who currently owns the bike.It hasn't been taxed since 1996 so it may well be in a shed in bits.Does the receipt you have include the frame and engine numbers of the bike? Good luck with your search. John White

Either side is good to take them out and put them in.Theyre a pig to get back on, particularly if the rubber inlet tubes have hardened off...good luck..

Side by side the piston on the left is way bigger...the left one has a 64mm diameter.the right one,a standard f2 piston has a 61mm diameter.the displacement should be 812cc.I just wondered if one of the boffins on this site would know the origin of these piston with them being a Honda item...

I stripped down a cb750 f2 engine i bought off ebay last yesr and found this piston hiding inside the engine block..its marked as a Honda but is very different to a standard f2 piston and a much higher crown and bigger valve cut outs.its looking like it's had a big bore conversion but I'd appreciate if someone can identify it..
