CB750 / Hanging idle please help
« on: July 03, 2020, 04:00:29 PM »
Okay so here’s the problem..

Honda CB750 k2
Stock carbs
Pod filters (don’t kill me)
4-1 (again don’t kill me)
Standard idle jet
+4 on the main jet
Toming correct
Cam chain correct
New coils
New leads
New plugs
New points
New condensers

Bike runs okay, pulls well above 2500rpm suggesting the main jet is okay, really bad idle and running very rich so I put the stock idle jets back on.

The main issue I am getting is the revs hang around 2500/3000 rpm when at a stand still.

I’ve put them on a vacuum balancer which was impossible as I’m struggling to get the bike to run at idle.

Everything seems okay on the carbs, they were fully dismantled cleaned new jets, seals, float heights done etc.

The throttle return spring is new and if anything on the heavy side.. after holding the throttle open for 3 miles of 50mph my hand was hurting 😂

If I apply A downward pressure to the tops of the carb lifters and blip the throttle it returns quickly to idle every time .. Almost like Ive made an error when putting them back together?
It feels like they are not closing properly?

I know this could be a multitude of things but was wondering if anyone has experienced this and it was a stupid error made when putting a set of these carbs back together??

Thanks for your help

I recently acquired an amazing CB750 1976 in a project state in that the hard work had been done and all that is required is it putting back together.
The quality of this build is A1, everything has been restored to near perfect condition or replaced with new parts.

With that said the tank has been beautifully painted to a very high standard and looks remarkable.

Here lies the problem.. being a complete idiot I have managed to knock the tank (don’t ask how) and placed a very small chip in  it.

I need it repaired to the same standard or if irreparable I need it completely resprayed to maintain the standard of the restoration.

Can anyone recommend someone that  may be able to repair the chip?
Failing that has anyone had experience with a professional sprayer they could recommend please

Thanking you all in advance

Misc / Open / Anyone own a Honda CB400 (NC31) Super Four please help
« on: March 04, 2019, 05:48:33 PM »
I am trying to fit a swingarm from a cb400sf into a 1981 cb750.

I could really do with photographs of the swingarm as it fits to the original bike to assist with my quest.

If anyone has one that could send some pics I would be forever grateful!

Any other help would also be appreciated

Thanks

Other Bikes / Thoughts on this one?
« on: October 23, 2018, 10:33:56 PM »
I love my little Cb550f to death it’s vintage cafe brat looks melt me every time! However I’ve managed to acquire something a little bigger as a next project a CB750 1981dohc!
I’ve always had an attraction to these bikes and wanted something with a little more grunt that I could add a sporty feel too! This one came with a CBR1000 Fireblade front end and has only done 14k on the clock!

The rear however has a swingarm from a CB400 sf (I think)including brakes and wheel!

The question is how easy would this be to fit properly?
Obviously I’m considering whether the sprockets are going to match or even line up, what mods are require to the pivot bolt and what spacers etc are required?

Should I be thinking of going back to stock or can it be done?

I know it’s quite a complicated question and without measurements and magical science won’t get step by step ‘how to’ guide just wondering if it’s feasable?
Be good to have a rear wheel that’s more in keeping with that front end!

Can anyone recommend any engine paint please?

Obv thinking a high temp VHT preferably a satin black?

Also I was going to use an acid etch primer due to the aluminium?
Will any acid etch work? Does it come in a high temp version?

Thanks u lot!

CB500/550 / Tank spraying??
« on: July 10, 2018, 07:43:03 PM »
Anyone had any good reasonable priced paint jobs done??
Looking to have my 550 tank done and don’t really want to pay an arm or a leg.

I understand you pay for what you get, but some of you may have had paint done at a reasonable price??

Thanks in advance

CB500/550 / Another timing question!!
« on: July 01, 2017, 06:01:12 PM »
Cb550 1977
Stock points ignition

Can anyone help, I have set the points statically and they are spot on, consider everything else done like valve clearances etc.

When checking the timing with a strobe I have it firing at the 'f'on idle, but when I increase revs the advance marks start to move back towards the fixed timing mark but stops moving around half way (10-15 degrees ish) and won't go any further despite he revs?

What could by causing this???

I've read some posts about advancer springs being warn but this feels like they are almost too strong and not allowing the advance to go far enough!

Thanks
Al

CB500/550 / Side Stand Problemo
« on: June 30, 2017, 03:29:16 PM »
I have a CB550 and for some reason when on its side stand it leans over way too far!
I do have nobly tires on which the previous owner installed. Could this raise the bike enough to cause it to lean so much.
I mean its that bad I am frightened of leaving it. Every time I put it down it leans beyond that point when I think I haven't kicked it down! lol

Any help appreciated as always!

Alan
