Honda made side stands with the rubber foot for many bikes in the 80's.

Here's Rex, our Australian Cattle dog. The best natural guard dog I have ever seen. He's so smart that I can tell him to get a specific toy and he comes back with it. Here he is sleeping on the job with his teddy bear, the only toy he doesn't chew up. ;D

The 550K0 may already be done Kelly, if you have a grease nipple under the swinging arm it's ok. If you have one either end of the swinging arm spindle you'll need to do it.

Nope, it's a early 74' 550 #449 and it came with the grease fittings on the end of the bolt.

I have done the Tourmax needle bearing swingarm conversion on my 74' CB 550K0. Between the needle bearings and the radial needle bearing end caps swingarm motion is so smooth now, there's absolutely no drag or play felt at all. Oddjob's grease fitting idea is a good one, I'll be doing it soon.

CB500/550 / Re: Painting engine case - to prime or not to prime?
« on: March 21, 2022, 01:59:13 PM »
I use Duplicolor engine primer now. The Duplicolor engine paint comes out better with it.

Is that for the Black or the Grey as Well? What color and primer have you used if I may ask?

The aluminium colour is the Duplicolor engine primer and paint. The black is Seymour MRO primer and paint in rattle cans. It's supposed to be gas and chemical resistant. If I spill gas on it I have to rewax it but no damage.

If you think the Honda castings are rough check out 80's Suzuki castings. They are so rough I had to use files to smooth them out after a brake fluid bath to remove the factory coating. Then I sanded them with 400grit. For the final pass I don't sand them with linear strokes, only around the circumference. It gives a nice satin finish. Here's before and after.

I use 3 double D shaped washers that will drop into the swingarm. Turn them once inside the tube. Then a big drift and they hammer right out.

CB500/550 / Re: Is there a way to prolong life cover seat?
« on: March 07, 2022, 03:50:20 PM »
I saved the seat cover on my 94' Kawasaki Concours ZG1000 with a product called SC-1. It comes in a spray can. The seat almost looked gray when I started. I sprayed on a coat and let it soak in, when absorbed I sprayed it again. At the end I wiped it down with a clean rag. I went through half of the can but the seat is still good 4 years later. The best part is the label says "New Bike in a Can". 8)
When I take the Concours on long rides I spray the fairing and side panels with an even coat and leave it alone to dry. After a two week roadtrip the bugs and bug guts wipe right off.

Lovely looking bikes, but a big old buses too...akin to my cb900f which was so large and so heavy to wheel around that I had to sell it ( although riding it I didn't ever notice the weight). The chap I sold it too was 6'4''ish and 16 stone, so perfect for him.    No wonder the word moved to smaller super-bikes like the Gsxr750!

I am only 5' 5" and 130lbs but I love riding the big bikes. We also have a 900F which I love riding. Our biggest bike is the 94'  Kawasaki Concours ZG 1000, it weighs 700lbs. With bikes that big you really have to think about where your parking and if it is sloped to your advantage or not. You also need to be able to do full lock U-turns at parking lot speed.

Yesterday we bought an 83' CB 1100F from the original owner. It sounded to good to be true but it was true. The bike lived in the garage since new and was last on the road in 03'. The bike found us through our Rust Bros Garage Facebook page. He knew that we'll resurrect and ride it. We'll get started on it as soon as we finish up the Suzuki GS 1100E.

Thanks to this forum I have also moved to Peter James and saved £55 on two bikes.

I have never really got insurance though, my car insurance has dropped by £186 because I moved to a remote spot in Scotland but where I was before was equally a nice area with low crime rates, I think they just make it up as they go along

Insurance is the same everywhere, a barely legal racket.  8)

An old, black ET 1100 was the first bike I did over a ton on, 135 in fact, up passed Menwith Hill Station on the way to Skipton on the A59. I was laughing my head off in my crap, FM lid complete with sketchy black visor, with my white scarf flapping about behind me. A proper hoot at the age of 17.   Sooooo cool ;D

Can't condone such irrisponsible behavoir now obviously and would never ream of going that fast now!................Your Honour 8)

 ;D ;D

Bullet proof motor with ace delivery and  grunt from really low down which meant you could just leave it in what ever gear and just stomp out of corners with the back squatting on the saggy shocks. Crap Metzlers either end and a cheesy grin from ear to ear, what a summer. ;D ;D

We've resurrected an 81' GS 1100E for a friend a while back and liked it so much we got our own. This one won't be as nice looking but will be faster. 8)

I don’t know much about Suzukis and less about bourbon, but that looks interesting.

It seems they sell it in our supermarkets.

The bourbon, not the GS

Give it a try, it's one of the top selling bourbons here.  8)
