Thanks for the feedback guys, appreciate it.
And Ted yes I hope the electrics do go to plan as I've got a new loom too, and pilfered every wiring diagram and book I could from here, so fingers crossed! 👍

Hello all,
Its been a while since I first introduced myself to the forum and shared my build so I just though I would share the with you all the latest photo's of my mild cafe 550F2 project. I also wanted to encourage those who, like me, have zero experience in the restoration of motorcycles that through using the amazing resource such as this forum that you can get there, because trust me if I can you can!
I would also really appreciate some constructive criticism or feedback as to what you think so far, because as i said this is the first one I've attempted and I am essentially building my dream bike (with the exception of an RC30 or 45). The bike hasn't been hacked about as most cafe bikes are and can still be returned to stock easily if needed. I didn't want to go for a loudy, shouty style but more of an understated one which captures the best of both worlds.
The build is not far now from being rideable, having started just over a year ago, and all I have now is *just* the electrics and then getting the thing fired up!
Cheers Phil

Thanks for all the replies and help guys. Mine is a USA import 77 F2, which had the high bars on and I've swapped them for the clubman drop bars, so in theory those 4into1 shorter cables should work (according to them anyway!) The clutch cable that was fitted as standard is now do long I'd almost have to do a couple of complete loops round the bike just to get the thing to fit! Digdil, I'll send you a PM.

OK thanks very much for the advice Phil, I'll take a look.
Not sure Oddjob, I'm going to be taking them off next weekend and I'll check. I ran out of time this weekend for any more playing.
Cheers Phil

Hello
I was wondering if anybody on here knew of a UK supplier of shorter throttle and clutch cables for a CB550 which has been fitted with clubman bars? I've found some on 4-into-1 in the US but the postage is a joke. I'm building a mild cafe style bike and have progressed quite well so far since my last post, however being a rookie and this being my first every motorcycle restoration I have been caught out by the long standard cables. Photos of my progress attached.
Cheers Phil

Hi, I'm after an airbox for a 77 CB550F. Does anyone have one going? I was going to go pods but from reading lots about the standard box being better I thought I'd do that first. If anyone has one available please let me know. Cheers.

Looking good - are those powder coated original rims?
Yeah, the budget didn't stretch to new wheels unfortunately but they seem to have turned out pretty well.
Not a criticism at all they look really cool - my BiL has told me how good they can look - suits the style you are aiming for bud.
To be fair I was a bit dubious and I fully expected to get shot for powder coating the original chrome wheels, but I really appreciate the positive feedback. They do look good though and your right are the style we are aiming for. I'm lucky as the powder coaters I use have been brilliant and have generally done an excellent job with the whole thing.

Welcome to another Phil and another 500/550. We'll outnumber the 400s yet.
Never! 400s rule. Welcome to the forum Phil. 👍
Thanks very much, but surely we're at least 100 better already??......

Another Phil Ward, would you believe it! its a pleasure to meet my Lancashire name sake and family!
WOW! My misus says 'surely theres not another like you!' Not sure whether she meant in a good way or a bad way! And we would never known if I had been more creative with my user name (this was my first forum and I don't do social media - so didn't know the ettiquete).
How strange, my wife said exactly the same! Apparently I can't have as many bikes as you though for some reason, but time will tell I suppose. I'm the same, just don't get facetube and all the rest, my username is one I came up with in college about 25 years ago and it's just stuck ever since.

OK sound, thanks very much. Saves me restoring the switch gear which has been ravaged by the Californian sun.
Can't believe how many little differences there are between the two markets. Mental.

No we won't use the indicators on this build as they attach to the fork ears, which again will just be stored for now. Right, very useful to know, I was not aware of the switch gear etc. Rear fender/tail light bracket will also not be used but useful to know the differences so thanks.
When it comes to the wiring I am going to buy a complete new loom, should I go for the UK spec loom or US if there are these electrical differences?
