Thank you for that Trigger.  I'm almost certain that mine are in the correct way round then.

I can only positively remember that mine have the numbers not showing when fitted but I do think coincidentally they are correct as per your first picture.  Thank you.

It's a longish boring story about my bike but essentially I removed the jets, cleaned them and refitted them as they were but I am beginning to realise that just about everything has been messed about with in an effort to get it to run properly so they could have been wrong when I removed them.

It just seemed odd to me that the jet size is invisible unless you actually remove the jet.

Hey ho.  There will no doubt be another carburettor question coming from me in due course then!

Thank you for your prompt responses, I do appreciate it.

Brian.

hmm, D7ES out of stock but they do have D7EA.  Does anyone know the difference?

Well, I don't; but however you look at it they are wrong in some way & you don't want another set of wrong ones so maybe best hang fire until they come in to their stock, or buy from somewhere else?

Your main jet should be stamped 100 and your slow running jet 38. The 38 screws in and the 100 pushes in at the o ring end and then the black spring clip  ;)

Thank you Trigger; yup you are right, I was mixing the sizes of the two up, I meant 100 for the main jet.  I shall try to keep up  ;D

So can I ask, when the main jets are fitted in place correctly, should the end of the jet marked "100" be visible, or should that end be the one that's pushed into the carb body and the unmarked end be visible please?

As I see it, it is possible to fit them either way because there are two grooves; one for the O-ring and one for the spring clip.

There is a reason why I'm asking!

Thank you again.

Brian.

wow Brian, great site, shall order today.  My ignition has been a bit unreliable lately, no.3 keeps cutting out.  Replaced coils which were always bad in the wet.  Now with these plugs should all be good.  Thanks to both of you for great advice.

Steve
OK Steve, well, if it's any help, the plug caps I ordered for mine were described on the website as 2no "VD05F black (8052)" and 2no "XD05F black (8072)" and they are a straight swap for the knackered ones that were fitted to me bike when I bought it if that's any help.  Please do check for yourself that they are right for you though, before you part with your money!

Those and four plugs plus P&P and VAT came to £19.46 total.  Which I thought was more than OK to be honest.

Hope this helps!

Hello Florence,

I bought my plugs a couple of weeks ago, and a set of plug caps, from here:- https://www.gsparkplug.com/

It was the best deal I could find, and they came in a couple of days.

I can definitely second Nurse Julie's comment above regarding not using resistor plugs and resistor plug caps together, it was one of the reasons why my CB550 ran so badly when I bought it.

What probably made mine worse still was that the resistance of the plug caps when checked on a multimeter (if you have access to one) was very high, they should be 5k ohms; two of mine were about 9k ohms and the other was 13.  It's a wonder really that there was any spark at all I guess.

New D7ES plugs and new caps, less than £20 all in, and ignition problems all sorted.

I hope this helps!

CB500/550 / My first post! Question regarding CB550 main jets.
« on: April 19, 2019, 05:26:47 PM »
Good afternoon all!  I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine today.

I have a question regarding 1974 CB550 K1 main jets, to which I cannot find the answer anywhere:-

The main jets have the jet size (38) stamped on the flat face of the jet.  When they are fitted to the carb, should that face of the jet be visible?  Or does it go in the other way please, ie stamped face butting up to the bottom of the needle jet?

Thank you very much.

Brian.
