Title: Bike search
Post by: smoothoperator on September 16, 2020, 03:21:02 PM
Looking for a 400 four, no takers for this one yet, any views? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/324291946931?_trksid=p2499334.m570.l5999&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI324291946931.N36.S1.typeWATCH_ITEM_ENDING_SOON.R1.TR3&autorefresh=true

It needs some expensive parts to make it standard.  NOVA is mentioned in the listing,  by him saying that it's unregistered in the UK and you can see for sure it's a USA import. Also, why would he 'clean the carbs and fit new plugs' but not service it 🤔🤔🤔.

That’s one hell of a dent in the tank.

Agree, its massive. Tank capacity must be approx 2L 😂😂😂😂 Having just looked at his other listings, its obviously a bike breakers.

I have to say its not the worst one I've ever seen.

Well that's in some way reassuring, members are helping, and there are better ones out there at this price point. One just went for 2K that was in bits but did appear much better, I was not ready to jump in yet, also it was a bit far away for viewing. Images weren't too revealing either. If it was as good as the spiel then I would think the seller would take some good images to back up the words. There are definitely some that look worse than this one! Thank you for the help.

This one looks as if it has potential. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/184444381810

It's a good starting point for a restoration. Depends what the bidding gets up to as to whether it's worth buying or not. Even though he says the engine starts, it's still an unknown quantity though.

I'm guesstimating it'll reach £2000.

That dealer is Paul Gaskin  ...his brother Mark runs Govnors Bridge...never dealt with Paul personally but Mark is a top notch breaker/importer of bikes.... very fair pricing  decent quality stuff ..  My Mate Graham bought a project 400/4 from him about a year or so ago and was a fair price and well described.

I'm sure I see this go on Fleabay for £1250, or thereabouts, last weekend 🤔🤔🤔

Think this one was left unsold. The one I guesstimated at £2000 went for about £1500. Having said that I have looked at so many I could well be wrong. Have been doing a LOT of reading especially on this forum which has me swinging like a pendulum. If this one wasn't so far away I would be having a look. As it is I am only in the thinking of having a look phase. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1976-Honda-Cb400-4-Super-Sport/303617689189

It's a tidy looking bike, the price isn't daft if its had a good restoration and looks as good in the flesh as it does in the photo. A bike bought for £1500-£2000 can soon rack up parts cost to reach that asking price. Looks like its in North Yorkshire near Skipton on the map. I was lucky in my search as I found one only 3 miles away so I had the advantage of seeing it before I bought. Mine wasn't a bargain at £2k either though I am very happy with it now.

The mileage is pretty high at 72,000 miles is my only negative observation but they do like to be ridden.

Thanks for the feedback. The one you have linked could well be worth a look as isn't so far from me and looks like it has good potential. Thanks again.

Exciting times, it's here!!!! Last owner had it since 1980 and kept some records. I can see it had a few bits done in 1981 including a cam change so that'll be fine obviously. New silencer £45. Small box of bits to rummage through, more excitement. Owners manual under the seat well there's a £50 bonus. Now for a serious garage clear out and bench install and possibly a new garden shed.

Great looking bike Steve - so you have the owners handbook what about the tool kit?
Looks a perfect start for a project bike without breaking the bank.

Yes tool kit and Haynes manual. Only talking about the good bits for a while.
