CB350/400 / 400 F2 Noise
« on: June 10, 2021, 12:52:05 PM »
I  wonder if anyone can help identifying a noise on my bike. I have had the clutch apart and everything seems in order (to me) and clutch rubbers seem to have been replaced with no obvious back and forth play.

Engine was supposedly rebuilt not too many miles ago. Don't know whether I have done the YouTube link right.

CB350/400 / 400 f2 carbs
« on: June 09, 2021, 07:48:53 PM »
My bike starts first time and seems to perform cleanly through the revs. It idles fine at 1200rpm and will idle slower although a touch lumpy. However the idle mixture screws do not seem to make a lot of difference when adjusted. Is this normal? The carbs were professionally rebuilt last year.

CB350/400 / Oil Strainer 400/4
« on: November 13, 2020, 07:42:24 PM »
How critical is the condition of the small pipe and O ring on the oil strainer please? The oil pressure builds up quickly on starting but after removing the sump both items seem quite hard. If I could get them easily I would replace them but not sure where to go. I don't know whether these are a certain type of rubber to resist oil and heat.

CB350/400 / Fork oil renewal
« on: August 10, 2020, 03:10:39 PM »
Decided to change front fork oil. Drained both no problem. Looked like relatively clean ATF to me. Anyway, on removing filler cap I expected to see the spring but about an inch below the top of the stanchion is what looks like some sort of plug with an internal hexagon about 13mm and there is no way I can pour the oil in. Any idea what is wrong please.

CB350/400 / Oil Pump
« on: July 10, 2020, 10:30:48 AM »
Excuse my ignorance but why has the CB400 have a double oil pump? I could understand if it was dry sump with separate oil tank like the 750 (scavenge pump and feed pump) but 400 is wet sump. Most cars are wet sump and have single pump.

CB350/400 / Knocking Noise
« on: June 20, 2020, 04:25:34 PM »
I have recently bought a CB400F2 that is off the road at the moment. It is making a knocking noise at idle (carbs have been stripped and cleaned by a professional and fine balanced by me as best I can). Noise becomes less when put in gear and rear brake lightly applied. After reading various posts about this and not being familiar with this engine I would really appreciate if anybody in the Wirral area would have a listen for me. Petrol/beer tokens gladly supplied. I think it might be primary chain but not sure. I don't want to strip the engine yet if it will be ok for a while.

CB350/400 / Rim width confusion
« on: June 12, 2020, 02:34:12 PM »
CB 400F2. My bike is fitted with 18x1.6 and 18x1.85 rims front and rear. Tyres sizes recommended are 90/90 18 and 100/90 18 yet Avon website seems to say these are too wide for the rims. Is this the size most people are fitting? Probably covered before but my search skills not that good.

CB350/400 / Rectifier
« on: June 05, 2020, 03:04:55 PM »
1978 CB400F2. The rectifier has packed up on my bike. A new rectifier/regulator costs about £80-90. However, I can get a 3 phase bridge rectifier (1000v 50A) for less than £20. Am I missing something?

CB350/400 / CB400F carb rebuild kits
« on: January 13, 2020, 02:14:27 PM »
Any recommendations for rebuild kits. Apart from DS, 4into1 have  some advertised as made in Taiwan. Also some direct from Taiwan, cheaper but with some negative feedback. Tried to search what most people use but I am not very good at that sort of thing.

CB350/400 / cam chain adjuster
« on: January 01, 2020, 12:33:04 PM »
I've recently bought a 1978 CB400F. There is a slight rattle when cold that disappears when warm. I am paranoid about adjuster problems. Is there a way of checking whether the horseshoe and/or tensioner rod are seized? Does sump removal help? Also if the threads for locking bolt are damaged is there a way of repair? These questions have probably been answered before but new to site.

New Member Introductions / CB400F
« on: December 27, 2019, 12:01:38 PM »
Hi all. I'm from Wirral. Just bought a Honda CB400F after many years without a bike. Not very clued up on Japanese bikes so will be asking some (stupid!) questions. Cheers.
