Nothing specific for strange threads Drew, like most carpenters, mechanics, bodgers etc we just make a bigger hole with a tap and die  and put a bigger screw or bolt in it to hold it together and if in doubt put a bit of bone cement in it. I have a couple of dodgy bolts on my 400 where the heads have sheared off so I'm sure i will end up with threads not known to the engineering world !!!

Me and my Endoscopes have been in some very dark, tight places over the years but I have never thought about inspecting the internals of an engine with it !!! What an excellent idea. The other day when I wanted to get the swing arm bushes out after I had cut them with the hacksaw blade, I used an instrument called an Osteotome, used regularly in Orthopaedic surgery, fitted perfectly down the side of the bush to help remove it. All basic woodwork instruments really but perfect on bikes too. (These were old knackered osteotomes I hasten to add, didn't take them from the kit in the Operating theatre  ;) ;)

Well done that girl, I would probably have given him a slap as well  ::). Personally I can't understand why men make assumptions, makes them look really silly.

Back to bikes. Soaked swing arm bushes in oil overnight as suggested by Hairygit, just fitted them, lovely, all nice and shiney and new. There was a little bit of wear on the old ones but I don't know enough to say if it would be considered normal or not, anyway, I'm pleased I changed them  :-* :-*

Going on DS's Facebook to appeal for  more 'gals to join us on here. One of his staff Jacqui  .. nice lady just awarded me a free 400/4 teashirt !  ... is a biker and there are quite a few others, so fingers crossed.

Cheers ... Ash

That sounds good Ash, hopefully enough ladies will join the forum that we can gang up on you gents and keep you on the straight and narrow.  ;D ;D ;D

All I mentioned was a bit of rubber tube and  a good potential source for it for  Gawds sake!  When I was a kid and the local chemists twigged that the Potassium Nitrate I used to buy from them was not 'For my dad's garden, miss', a friendly nurse stepped in and got me Potassium Permanganate instead, as the hospital used it for treating old bod's feet or something. The 'flowers of sulphur' and charcoal were readily available, so no worries there. Problem was that the Pot. Permanganate made an unholy purple mess everywhere so I was quickly banned from using that too  ::)

I bet Julie had dealt with much worse banter than she gets on here. We all get a bit of banter chucked at us on here male or femail. Some bug*er on here even accused poor old Ashimoto of being a mad scientist type  :(    ..... Must dash there's thunder and lightening predicted and I have a tall fella in my gararge who needs a fix and I could do with the bolts back I used in his neck, cos I need em to hold on my HM300's

That's another great point about the 400/4, it was ideally suited to girls as well as boys. There are quite a few females with 400/s who post on DS's FB site. why did Honda have to replace it with the ugly piece of crap the 400T?

Yes Ash, the banter on here is lightweight up against what I have had to deal with face to face over the years as a Nurse. I also have very close connections with the Motor Trade and over the past 30 odd years have had to deal with Men on a very regular basis, take it from me absolutly nothing can shock or upset me and if anything I am usually the instigator !!!.  :-* :-*

Thanks for your concern Bitsa. I can put up with anything directed my way and I can give as good as I get. It's all in good humour I'm sure and that's the way I take it.
Kind regards

Thought the original bushes were plastic.
You probably have the HONDA shop manual already  Julie .... but just in case or for others I bunged in into Dropbox here below:-
Got my knuckles wrapped last night by Bitsa for mentioning rubber tubes again .. so sorry for that  :-[

Cheers .. AshD
Yes Ash, I did see the rubber tube banter  ;D. I was showing it to some of my staff at work last night, they understand fully mens fetishes about rubber, it's no different to us girls having fetishes about Firemen or farmers in wellie boots, it's the rubber that does it for us too  :-* :-* (I think Bitsa has led a sheltered life !!!)

Thanks Ash. Im sure the original were plastic but sometime in the past the bike has been completley stripped as the frame has been powder coated. I assume the brass one's were put in as part of the rebuild, I only changed them again because I have the back end out to do the chain and sprocket.

Julie,
You can not compare a CBR against a CB400. Worlds apart mate.
A bit skippy can be shocks and wobbly could be down to low pressure in the rear tyre.
.

Worlds apart I know Trig and as you know I have got a poss slow puncture on back tyre. But with my limited knowledge (compared to you Guys) I just go with what I can do and hope for the best, and it's better than doing the ironing or housework !!!). Hagon shocks fitted, both look ok.

No, I'm not sure if there was really a problem with them Trig. There may have been the slightest bit of play when I wiggled the back wheel, but it also may have been my imagination !!!. Also though, the back end feels very slightly unstable and a bit skippy and wobbly when riding. It may be because i'm comparing the back end with my CBR's. Anyway, as I'm going to change the chain and sprocket it just made sense to me to to take the whole back end apart and do the bushes at the same time. Just got them out, no major problems removing them, except 1 broken nail and some chipped nail varnish.   ;D ;D
