Include me in.

Free rides on trams are all very well, but I want a go in that Tardis, I watched it all day last year and it never went anywhere. I think they only use it when they need spares for the trams (we could stow away on board with a parts list or two).

Could load the CL up on the Tardis for future completion..... or will it be done by then for you to show off? ;)

Unless I book the day off I'll be working. I had to change my shift at work as I have to go to hospital every week for a year and to do that I was forced to have to work permanent weekends.

Julie will know what this is but it appears I have Haemochromatosis

Oddjob  my dad was diagnosed with Hemochromatosis about 3 years ago now.
His Ferritin level was up to 4000 his blood was so thick it was like raspberry moose.
He too was having to go to the hospital once a week for a year to get his levels to normalise.
My brother and I was told to be tested but when my brother saw the doctor he was told to man up and go away.  :o So Iv never found out. We have all radically changed our diets and all feel better for it. My dad hasn't had his blood taken now for about 1 1/2 years now.

My dad and I both intend on going again this year if work allows.

Just an aside about medication....which I have been on for about 10 years......my GP at the time....a very nice Lady told me that she liked to try a 'cocktail' of pills as they all did different things and together the right 'cocktail' would see me sorted out OK. I cheekily suggested that I was rather hoping to take those new ones that I had recently read about !

Looking at me over her designer specs......she asked "And what are those Mr T"....my reply...."Oh you know.....those new tablets you take six times a day - after sex".

She put her pen down and fixed me with a withering look and responded, "Mr T.....if I could prescribe such a tablet, I would be taking it myself" !

Touche.

Is this the first time you have felt fit to ride or has the weather been holding you back as well. My much nicer other half had a new hip 5 weeks ago.

You still want me to bring along my CB500 cylinder head, it's nice and clean. Just putting the finishing touches to my CB1300, still a days work to do but it will be ready for the 1st. I'll see you all there, don't think I'll bring the wife as I doubt she'll enjoy it.

Yep bring the head. Be good to see you, I know you were disappointed  last year not to make  it.

Sorry guys n  gals, Things have apparently changed and registration is a little bit more involved than last year. Just need to register on arrival, although basic places are booked. Name address contact number and bike details etc. Wont be a problem besides this slight complication.

We are in the same place as last year on the Honda stand by Town Hall. As we are registering on arrival as above, we will be given a red sticker which is technically overflow. THEREFORE PLEASE ENSURE YOU TELL STEWARDS YOU ARE ON THE HONDA STAND BY TOWN HALL.

I'll post some mappy stuff in next few days...

Let me know if anything not clear.

Tim

Sorry Roza but are we exhibitors and as such use the exhibitors entrance? and on the map whereabouts is the main road, which is the A6 IIRC. Can't orientate myself enough to know where to go.

Ken I went last year so just follow me in !!

No problem Paul, just went onto Google Earth and it's farther from the A6 than I remembered, not visited there for over 30 years and the old memory was telling me it was just outside of Matlock Bath and it's not after looking at the map. I gather we don't go in by the gates near the Town Hall then?

I cant remember exactly but when there it's obvious, I just followed the exhibitor signs

Yes exhibitors. There ia a lane up the the  rh side of entrance. Pretty staight forward. Follow the bikes. About 10 mins max from A6.

Just filled the bikes up ready for my 7am departure.
Got a strange look in the local petrol station turning up on two bikes in short succession.
I got the feeling she wanted to say something but didn't want to look stupid asking if I had already been in 5 minutes ago.
If I take it easy tomorrow I may be luck and only have to stop 4 times for fuel.   ::)

It was a tad warm John to say the least but better than it raining !!!. A wonderful day out again, lovely to see people I had met before and some people who I have never met, so all round a great day. Thanks to Tim (Rozabikes) for getting us in again. We're staying in the Peak District for a few days doing some exploring, by what I have seen so far, it really is a beautiful place.

Good to see the oldies again
Didn't get to talk to Roy or Ken they vanished every time I turned my back
Not impressed we had to park in the overflow some smartass moved my bike and I was not a happy bunny.
An eventful ride home I think the heat messed with my dads head and both bikes ran like crap. I rode a couple of miles with my phone just placed on the seat it was a shock when I realised and had to stuff it in my jacket wile on the move.
On my second from last fuel stop my jacket zip failed and flung open like a cape for the remainder of the trip. Thank god I remembered to put the phone in my panniers.

Great to see you all again.  :) They do always seem to organise good weather for the show.

Due to the unfortunate after effects of meeting a free gin bar at a 60th party the previous evening  8) I wasn't at my best, so could have done with another of those stickers that Julie handed out last year, to tell us who we were.

Speaking of stickers, those headlamp ones are a bugger to get off, especially when you've baked it on with your headlamp because you forgot to take it off before you left.  :-[ I had a half hearted attempt at a garage, then decided to wait till I got home, a squirt of WD40 worked a treat for cleaning off the glue (top tip).

Great to catch up with all the gang yesterday, have to have a small moan about having to park up the hill as well as I was there at 10:30 (I wasn't aware Goldwings fell in to SOHC territory !!)

Julie - I loved your 550 by the way, I don't normally like the concept but yours is just right !!

Seriously hot but enjoyable ride home via Ashbourne and Cat and Fiddle and the 4 is running really well. Still impressed I can keep up with a lot of "new" machinery on the twisties on something now 47 year old!!

Roy -  if you ever want to hook up in the North West for a ride out and a brew and a chat then just pm me I am generally free most Fridays maybe I can get my buddy Geoff with the black 4 to make a threesome (no comments please!!)

Great to meet some sohc Members at Crich on Sunday......as others have said it's smashing to finally put faces to names after a few years of 'conversing' with them and sharing tips, information, quips and stories via t'internet.

I'm also a Member of a Triumph Forum/ Club but that seems to be made up of crusty old gits who delight in putting others down and belittling their efforts.......completely opposite to the sohc Forum where newbies are warmly greeted and nothing is too silly or trivial to be replied to and it doesn't receive a smartarse response - or worse still, no response.

Those who I managed to have conversations with were a delight.....full of enthusiasm and with a genuine love of old Hondas, and it made the trip a real pleasure........here's to the next time.

P.S. the bikes were pretty damn good as well......but they always were, and always will be.....thanks to their dedicated owners in the sohc Forum.

Another good day, I think there were more bikes in total but less of the really old flat tankers and such. A pity we were split up as a group.

Yes sorry chaps, we were promised it would work as the instructions I posted originally. I will raise the issues. Such as shame as not only is it nice to put faces to names but also see bikes that have been talked about / photographed as builds etc. Have to educate them that a SOHC Honda is not just any Honda!!

Everyone seems to have enjoyed it despite the above, as did I. Thanks for a great day.

You meet the nicest people on a Honda  :)

The snobbiest people on a Harley
The most conceited on a BMW
The angriest on a Triumph

ETC ETC

I also noticed on the way home that Harleys must have some sort of anti fall over device fitted since most riders seem to wear shorts/tank tops etc.

I even saw one guy with full textiles with his missus on the back with thin pants and rope shoes - what a caring hubby  ;) - crazy !!!!!!!!!!

I think the ones with steamroller back tyres can't fall over, or even need a sidestand. In Switzerland I once saw a guy on the motorway riding an HD, wearing full safety equipment of helmet, trunks and flip flops. You wonder where they'd take the skin graft from if he fell off.

I can't take the p*ss too much as I own one somewhere, even though I never see it. On the way home I went like stink down the A6 after seeing a Sportster and a V-Rod pulling out of a side road, no way were they catching and passing me! In the next few minutes I passed two 911's and a Triumph TR6, there must have been a classic car do on somewhere as well. Needless to say, I never saw the Harleys again.

I'm off to the Le Mans Classic this weekend, there are usually one or two old Hondas around the paddock, I fell in love with an early 350 twin last time I went.

Great hot day out. Was nice to see some old and young faces Mick  ;) Also some new ones. Shame not to see more members at these events as, so many live in the area.
I was advised to go to the overflow parking but, for some reason i never listen to anyone that doesn't know what they are doing  ;D ;D

Hi ,

Just to say I have passed on our feelings re parking control on the day. See copy text of my email to Jon Lambley, one of the organisers.  I had the reply next morning (see below also), having only emailed him late the night before. I think this, along with his comments reflect they want to sort  it!

Tim

My email:-

Thanks Jon,

the problem was quite simple and related to parking in agreed exibition area. Having only found out late on about a change from last year to pre register individually,  our group members registered on the gate as requested and were given a red wrist band. Then on saying to marshalls they had been told to ask to be sent to the Honda area, many were refused, saying there was no space. I know specifically somone arrived at only 10.30 to be told this.

I think I personally got to the designated area on foot soon after 10. At that point there were probably 8-10 bikes parked up, of which 2 were SOHC members. The area was definitely  not full then, yet I know at that very time our members were being refused passage down.

We are not precious about our bikes being of a specific type and  happy to park up with other bikes and gladly share a general Honda grouping. However, there  was insufficient space left in our allocated area. As a forum we had registered interest for 15 -25 bikes. In reality less than that came, so we shoukd have had ample space. As you know our application was mislaid too and it was only on chasing things up that we found out about the pre registering thing at all. Was it the  case that he marshalls were sending any Hondas down to our area, taking up the majority of the space allocated to our specific group?

The idea of this event for our members who are from all over the country and often only know others by name, was to meet up chat and check out each other's bikes. Difficult when their machines were at extreme ends of the facility!

Jon, don't get me wrong we had a great day but the edge was taken off it by this for all of us. I think this needs more thought next year from the organisers. Please see this as constructive comment, I know you and others work really hard on this growing event.

On a more possitive note, gift aid was mentioned. Is the museum a registered charity? Also, how about a few more bike specific trade stalls? Would maybe keep people on site longer after all the bikes  have been checked out?

Regards,

Tim

Jon's Reply:-

Hi Tim,
no offence taken at all Tim and I understand your points.
The stewards were told any late entries were to be sent to the area up the hill at the top end and I definately told them that if any rider stated they were on a club or group stand that they should be directed there. Clearly it didn't happen and I can only appologise.
The mislaying of the form had nothing to do with that as I knew you were coming and kept that space for you. The fact that individuals hadn't booked was a  factor because had they booked it wouldn't have happened like it did. One change may happen for next year is pre-booked only, which should help.
Anyway, next year you will get together and I will make sure of it.
We are yet to have our debrief with the tramway and have lots of things to discuss and iron out.
Please appologise to your group and assure them they will be fine next year.
Trade stands is on the agenda but space is an issue.
Regards
Jon

I don't think the location makes much difference as everybody mooches everywhere anyway. But you will not get much attention if your group is fragmented. Assurance has been given that it will not happen again. Twenty to thirty bikes stood together from the same group will always draw more attention than ten. Unless the ten were very special, but what's more special than a sohc. As it were I don't think you would have got twenty to thirty in that area because of all the triumphs that turned up quite early. Some of which were relatively new.

I think that's the key here, we need to be there before 10am.

Certainly from what I would call the new era of bonnies/tbirds but that could still make one over 15 years old I suppose, but personally I don't see them as classics.  You could get a 1800 Goldwing as old would you call that a classic.

One thing I might add. The SOHC seems to get the same location every year, it's not the best location I feel. How about asking if the exhibitors areas could be rotated every year, we'd certainly get more attention further up the site.

Who won best bike BTW? I saw a few rosettes on bikes but didn't spot best in show.

My bad Ken. I asked for the same area as thought all happy last year and assumed desirable place as Vincent club were in front of us last year (where Triumphs were this time). They are vey involved in organising the event. Glad to try something different if wanted...

Best bike in show as below.

There is a facebook page which is something I generally avoid. However looked at it on my wifes phone. Low and behold, a photo of our very own John W riding in on his trusty 500/4.!!

If we move to a different area, then i would not know where to go when the marshals try sending me to a different place  ;)
I recon next year we should turn up with our bikes covered in rosettes, then we may get more attention  ;D ;D ;D
