Title: side panels
Post by: oapcb400 on July 31, 2018, 06:31:27 PM
with just the paperwork left my 77 400f is ready to return to the road after 23 years, one little problem, the side panels refuse to go over the bottom rubber grommets. applied rubber grease, still no joy. seems if i do force them on, i'd never get them off again. i do'nt want to break them , any tips?

Are the rubbers soft or hard and brittle?

The grommets should be in the side panel, then should be fitted over the students on the frame. When you remove a side panel the rubber should come with it, no remain on the stud.

You may have to straighten the bottom pins where the grommet fits.  If it's misaligned then it won't go on properly.   Also check the battery contacts aren't sticking out a bit.

Add a smidge of silicone grease to the pin.
New rubber can push the grommet from the hole ! ;D
