Oh my 400/4 values appear to be on a steep rise judging by how much some people expect to get these days!

It's just a bit prettier than mine...
;D

Stooooopid money. I like mine more and someone could buy mine for half that price.....if i were selling it.......which i'm not. Very sparce details on the listing.
I could be wrong....it has been known...;D ;D But, I think that belongs to someone who, a couple of years back, once dictated to us that the bottom was going to fall out of the classic bike market and we would all end up on the streets as Paupers, or something along those lines.

This is more like it, there is a future for this one without breaking the bank by the looks of it.

Somebody with plenty of spare cash may buy it, RD400’s have gone for similar money in the past. Silly money though.... good luck to him and even if he does sell it i bet he wont make much profit, it must cost an arm and leg to build one from nos parts anyway...
-
If he wants that for the 400 four I shudder to think what price he would ask for the CBX 1000.
-
Well, when the parts and services bill reached £7k for the 400/4 I restored I gave up counting, why bother, it wasn't about the money but my love of the bike and restoring bikes is my hobby. I know I'd never get my money back but that's not what I'm in it for. I've only ever sold one bike I restored in 30 years and that was because the mortgage rate hit 15%!
I like the barn find 400 Julie. Nice wheels and what looks like a Peter Furlong rear chain case. They were ugly but kept the crud off the chain (and also allowed the the owner to forget to check the chain tension!). I think that bike is going to make some large cash.

Wise decision to stop counting, its our choice to have an expensive hobby 😀😀 That 400 I posted the link to has got the wrong front end on it but depending on what it goes for, its still got potential.
Oh, and no rear indicators.

When I raced bikes I soon came to the conclusion that if you knew how much it cost you wouldn’t do it, I’ve refused to keep tabs on costs ever since.

I don't know what to think. I paid £4,250 for mine from wesellclassicbikes.com and I'm sure I paid too much, I didn't seem to have shopped around hard enough nor was I savvy enough, I wasn't on here either. At the time a Kawasaki triple was on the cards too. I'd been away from biking for 28 years. I'm put a couple of grand and lots of work into mine and a year later she looks and goes a great deal better, but it's a good job I'm not interested in selling.
-
Is there any hope for this one? If it was a horse surely they would SHOOT it? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1976-Honda-CB-400-F-400-4-four-Restoration-Barn-find-Project-RUNNING/264173222709?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3Db8bbf6b80ce7470eac02ca153f13a3d4%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D292934677118%26itm%3D264173222709&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

jesus.. that one isn't worth £200 never mind £2000.... just a pile of rust. You'd have to be mad to take on a restoration like that when much better bikes can be had for not much more money...

But at least the Rd400 is exciting!

Ooooh! controversial. The CB400 boys (and girls) will be along soon to chastise you ;D

I don't know... those original headers look to be in pretty good nick - aren't they running about £2000 these days? ;)
-
A friend of mine has just purchased a set of down pipes and silencer, original OEM, had been fitted to a bike and started once for a photo shoot and then removed and stored....£600.00

Ooo, a bargain, then!
I was just being facetious with the £2k crack...
-
23 bids so far on the 'genuine barn find'????
As for 400/4 headers at £2k a piece, take a look at the new CB600. It has headers made to the same design as the 400/4 (sweeping and clearing the oil filter). The price for new headers if you happen to crunch them is £2500 and that's WITHOUT the cat or the silencer!!!! Some would say they are 'reassuringly expensive'.
-
This is the one that I spent £4,250 on, to my out of practice eye it didn't seem so bad...then: https://wesellclassicbikes.co.uk/bikes/687

For a brief moment I thought that was my old bike I was forced to sell in 1986 a couple of years after restoring it and when the mortgage rate went up to 15%. I re-trimmed my seat in exactly the same way to match the tank colour. It was only after seeing the number plate in another picture I realised it wasn't my bike but that seat is very spooky!
Nice looking bike though, I think you got a good buy there as long as it runs OK and no leaks, rattles etc. It's £5k cheaper than the one on ebay!
-
Mine was far worse when i got it, this one just needs a good clean and some minor parts...

It's had a super clean, scrub, polish and paint. It's had major new parts...tank, loom, seat, battery, exhaust flanges, seals, oil feed pipes, electrical bits...and...and...and.....DSS spares must love me.
-
It’s a bit worrying that you spend over £4k on a bike which you think is in good condition but then needs another £2k spending on it!
-
Just noticed this thread and the phrase better than new kills it, if it's better than new it's over restored and certainly not worth the money, when are the restorers going to get it right. Just my own outlook on it.

I was referring to post 11.....the one to shoot instead of restore to working condition?
-
Double Gulp!!!!
Makes the 400/4 look cheap, it is bloody nice though.

That's been for sale for about a year now and was discussed on here in depth as you can imagine 😀😀

Ah yes, I remember the discussion about the yellow dots on bolts/nuts :)

over restoration is, in my view, a real problem these days. i, like many of you, have been restoring bikes (mainly old brit ones) and to me a good bike is one that runs and you can use not polish and put on a pedestal.
