Ok, things have slacked off a bit at the house so if you want to pay the postage then its yours. It may still take me a few days to sort as I'm busy AF but I'll get to it.

Hi, I'd got my SOHC Nighthawk 650 parked outside my house when this "old guy" knocked on my door and asked me if I wanted a spare downpipe for it as he had one from years ago when he used to ride Honda 750's and he thought that it may have been of use to me. I picked it up from him and noticed straight away that it wasn't going to be any good seeing as it bends all over place but the "old guy" was gonna bin it if I didn't take it, so I thought I'd see if it was any use to you guy's. If you know what it is from then please let me know, if you need it then it is yours but only for collection from Derby, I'm working seven days a week, getting our new (derelict) house ready and I just really haven't got the time to mess about wrapping and posting stuff. PM me if you want details.

I just checked, DOHC 650's had bolt on insulators, SOHC's didn't.

Hello Bryan, I have both types of head on my bikes, one with PD slide carbs (CB650C) and the other with CV carbs (CB650SC Nighthawk) and neither have bolt on insulators. Please can you let us know which model has bolt on insulators? They aren't bolt on, on the CB650Z either as they have PD slide carbs as well. They may be off a DOHC 650, I just don't know anything about them.

Those insulators pictured aren't off of a SOHC CB650, the insulators on the CB650 don't bolt on, they are held on by clamps.

Same model as mine, Honda seem to have had a huge problem getting the chrome plating to stick to the rims.

I won't be posting anymore updates to this thread as CB650's seem to be a non subject on this site. Regards Clunker, signing off.

CB500/550 / Re: Throttle return spring....to strong
« on: July 29, 2017, 08:08:14 PM »
I'll have to jump in and say that if you remove the return cable and spring....and something untoward happens to your bike and you have an accident, then an Insurer WILL use that against you. It may have had little to do with the reasons for the accident occurring, or the eventual outcome, but they WILL use it against you and it will be up to you to prove in a court of law that it had nothing to do with the accident. You will need tens of thousands ££££ to fight any case against your Insurer, and if you lose, you can wave goodbye to your house - if you own one - or your future lifetime earnings if you don't. Insurers don't mess about and they will fight you in court - because they have little to lose - unlike you do.

If you were carrying a pillion who suffered injury, they would have to sue you for any personal damages; if you hit another vehicle or pedestrian, they would have to sue you for any damages - primarily because your Insurers will deny ANY liability because you removed a piece of 'safety related' kit which the manufacturer installed when they designed the vehicle and sold it as 'fit for purpose'.

Just because an Insurance Assessor hasn't picked up on similar things in the past isn't anything to go on for the future. There are 'good' Assessors and there are 'bad' Assessors.....in a case potentially involving big bucks.......which type of Assessor do you think your Insurers will send out ? Similarly, an Insurer will frustrate a case coming to court for as long as they like....leaving you (and those suing you) in limbo without any compensation or payout - possibly for a few years.

Don't take my word for it....I may be right....I may be wrong......but what's the point of paying out for Insurance then giving your Insurer a 'watertight case' for not having to pay out should you have a serious claim involving serious money ?

^What he said^ Your Insurance "Will" do you over if they can! It's how they make money, by blaming anyone else!

CB500/550 / Re: Keihin PD46a - missing arm
« on: July 26, 2017, 04:58:36 PM »
If they've been cleaned twice then I wouldn't bother again as they won't have been used to get dirty inside. When I do carbs I strip them just so much that they fit in my cleaners tank but stripping them right down isn't hard, its just laziness on my part. I take everything off them that I can. I've just done mine but I left the middle two together as they fit in my tank totally immersed. When they are finished in the tank everything gets a really good rinse in the sink then taken out to the shed for a massive amount of compressed air through every single hole, then I do it all again, just in case.

No problem mate. Looking at those carbs though I'd be inclined to strip them and ultrasonic clean them while they are off. Don't know if rebuild kits are available for them but steer clear of anything from Taiwan (ask me how I know). Stripping them isn't anything to worry about, putting the buggers back together is the tricky bit! No, seriously, they are a doddle and nothing to worry about.

I think the penny has just dropped as to which arm you mean ::) You mean inside the carb body? If thats the case then there is nothing missing, that is your number 2 carb which is your base carb, it isn't adjustable but the others are. The only part I saw missing was the link arm.

These carbs are PD40A but the arm may still fit.
