CB500/550 / exhaust collars.
« on: February 23, 2023, 04:40:49 PM »
Hi all,

I am looking for 8 useable exhaust collars for my 76 550f.  My lockdown project came cobbled together with a short solid metal tube thing between the ex. head gasket and the clamp on each cylinder. These are rubbish so I am looking for some of the original bits to fix it.
Hopefully, someone in the UK will have some serviceable ones kicking around that they will sell me, postage will be paid of course.

cheers, Peter

A big thankyou to `oddjob'  spring received, you have solved my problem so I can now get on with the carb rebuild.

Where would we be without guys like Ken.

Cheers, Peter.

Hey, guys, Thankyou for your comments and help.

I have always found this forum a nice friendly place to ask for advice or bits that are not normally available on the net or anywhere else - and long may it remain so.

The retaining spring that I am short of is not a great big problem in the big scheme of life (I am 73) and if it takes me a few weeks to source one - then that is what takes. - but I am not going to be paying a silly price for one (or a set of 4) (oddjob is about right on his price) just cos some one has something that no one else has. The carbs arn't going anywhere -  the bike is running ok but not perfect - I am just trying to get it running better and to future proof it with ethanol fuel problem.  The carbs that are on the bike will be spare when I am sorted.

I have many bits from the 2 bikes that have been used to make one good safe one which when I sort them out, I will be getting rid of and the obvious place to do this will be on this forum.  (I don't want any money for these bits, only fact that they are going to keep these bikes on the road.

Has anyone thought of sorting a place for these bits to be stored and available for the cost of postage to whoever might be in need of them? I know this can be a pain in the arse to be in charge of but I am willing to be a contributor to this stash of bits if it was set up.

When I am all sorted - probably during the summer,, I will put a list of what I have that I don't need and please feel free to let me know if anything is wanted by whoever and as long as you please pay the postage then it is yours.

Cheers,  Peter

Yes, I had seen these but as I only need one, nearly $59 incl postage looked a bit expensive so I thought I'd ty a request on here to see if there were any in the U.K. first.

Hi all,

I never stop being surprised at what people will do to save a bob or two.  My 550 will never be perfect but it will be safe and will run right.

I have started rebuilding/restoring my spare set of carbs with new viton `o' rings etc to replace the ones on the bike which I know have some corrosion in the no 3 carb.

After removing the float chambers, I see 3 main jet retaining springs and the fourth jet is held in with something that looks like a blob of locktite or similar - what a bummer.

So, has anyone got a spare leaf spring about that I can purchase/obtain from them to put it back as it should be. Postage will be paid of course.

Many thanks,

Peter

Many thanks Trigger. (bought) this didn't show up for me when I looked.

I still have this harness box for a 1976 cb500T.  It is free to someone who will use for their resto - all I ask is the cost of postage or can pick it up from Ripon, North Yorks.

Cheers all.  Peter

I have a harness box for a 76 cb500t which I got with a donor bike which is obviously no use to me so if it is of use to anyone please let me know. part no.  32400-375-000

Hi All,   I have nearly finished my 3 year lockdown project to get a knackered 1976 550f1 rebuilt and back together. It will not look original (painted it white) but it will be a good safe bike to ride which is what I want.

I am having trouble locating some new or used rubber buffers that fit on the underneath of the seat pan.  The oblong ones which fit at the front with a round cut out which sits on the left and right top frame tubes.  Is there anyone out there who sells/makes these or has some for sale before I try and make some. The other round ones are also missing but I think I can source something similar which will do.

Anyone any ideas for locating these especially the oblong ones?

Many thanks,  Peter.

500T ears  -  can anyone please tell me what the bolt and thread size is for the holes in the `ears' into which the indicator stems screw into.  Also, if anyone can tell me where to get them from that would be even better as I have had no joy up to now.   Many thanks,  Peter.

YES, If I remember well, the ears that came with the bike were knackered. these ears could have come from a 500t as I bought one as a donor bike for the forks, wheels etc but have since learned that the 500t rear drum etc is not the same as a 550f as the sprocket I bought for it did not fit. Knowledge is everything, lack of it is expensive!  I will have a look at a 500t to see what should fit into these holes.

Hi All,   I have been putting together a 1976 550f over the past many months as a lockdown project. When I got the bike it was a bitsa of many parts (gs 650 wheels and forks etc) I am not one to get worried about everything being original but the end result has to be a safe and reliable bike for me.

Just got round to fitting the headlight shell/indicators/reflectors etc. Question!  does it matter if the indicators fit through the shell and hold the thing on or do the reflectors do this job?  personally I am not bothered which as people seem to do it either way.  I have attached a pic of the `ears' with the shell fixed by the indicators but the threaded hole below on the ears is much bigger so what screws into this, neither of the pairs of original reflectors that I have will fit - same thread as the headlight shell nuts.

I have to say that this pair of ears did come on the bike BUT may not be the original Honda ones and may be from another bike altogether.

Next job will be the electrics.  The original loom was butchered to death and I have still got it for spares if needed.  I have a very good loom from a 76 cb500t (twin)  Hoping this fits OK and will try and alter it if not. I am not good with electrics at all so will probably be asking many questions if youtube can't solve my problems.

Very grateful for any help/suggestions.   Cheers, Peter.
