CB350/400 / What to do next?
« on: March 13, 2019, 08:17:19 AM »
Well, I have had the 400 for 18 months and I haven't missed a modern more powerful bike enough to buy another.  I have had plenty of fun days out on local roads so all good.

So this has led me to thinking about what about keeping the 400 as a daily rider and using it for a couple of longer trips.

When I got the bike it had been stored as part of a collection for 17 years, so it was really just an enhanced service to bring it back to life.

I would want to bring the 400 up to a known standard to reduce my "What's that rattle" paranoia, so some kind  of engine / carb rebuild would be preferred.

So has anyone had this work carried out and could give me an idea about costs, I am fine with oil, plugs etc, but don't have the knowledge/tools or space to do it myself. I love the bike and would want to keep it going, but still in regular use if you understand where I want to be with it.

TIA

CB350/400 / Views of My Elbows.
« on: September 29, 2018, 04:05:03 PM »
Yes, much as I like my elbows,  I'm fed up with seeing them in the mirrors of my 400F.  Any recommendations for ones with a wider view or longer stem? Thanks.

CB350/400 / RH Side Panel Broken
« on: June 02, 2018, 02:08:08 PM »
Don't know how, but my RH side panel has broken  :'( , is repairing these a thing, if so who does this?

If a repair is not possible, I can see I can get a pattern part from DS , who would members  recommend for painting and is there a colour code for the yellow. Many thanks. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Misc / Open / Registering and Insuring a Grey Import
« on: February 26, 2018, 06:52:54 PM »
Bit of a random question, but I've seen a Grey Import Honda Cub derivative CD50, that I fancy as town runabout. It's a 4 speed manual but with proper motorbike looks.

It's an I import from Japan and on the Nova system, Speedo is in kph showing 41, 000,  the motor runs well. Bike generally clean for the year.

What are the pitfalls with registering and insuring such a bike, can I insure of a VIN?

Lots of spares for the bike at CMSL, everthing still available for the engine as its the evergreen 50cc thing.

TIA
Dave.

CB350/400 / CB400F Ignition Switch
« on: February 09, 2018, 07:19:12 PM »
One of the issues I had when recommissioning the bike,  was the ignition cut out a couple of times on the initial test rides. I have dismantled the ignition switch, and noticed that the white plastic part with the electrical contacts bit at the bottom of the barrel part, has been subject to heat, presumably from internal corrosion.  The result is the plastic part is melted!

Does anyone know if it's possible to just get the plastic part, or do I need a whole ignition switch, also is the DSS part interchangeable, in as much as I was thinking of buying one just to get the white part, thereby allowing me to keep the original barrel part and keys.

Hope this makes sense.
Thanks Dave

CB350/400 / Brake Pads
« on: October 05, 2017, 06:54:20 PM »
Now I'm up and running on CB400F (and loving the ride), what is the general opinion on brake pads? Mine is fitted with 1990's Honda genuine pads, but I would like a bit more bite, any ideas ? Thanks in advance.

CB350/400 / Master cylinder rebuild issues
« on: September 25, 2017, 07:38:46 PM »
Help / advice needed?

The final job of recommissioning my  my UK spec 1977 400 Four, is causing me some grief.

I have spent today installing a DS master cylinder service kit. I had the devil's own job getting  the wire clip (spring wire not circlip) to hold the rubber boot is there an easy way for this?

Regrettably, there is still a slight weep from the lid of the reservoir unless I tighten the lid to full Muller (technical term). Do I need a new rubber for the cylinder or perhaps a new lid? Lever is now firm and no other leaks.

The bike has passed the MOT and I have now ridden 100 miles with no other issues, it's a great ride!

Hi all,

Just sold my modern bike, and bought a 1977 CB400F.

The bike was restored by the previous owner in 1989, but it hasn't been ridden since, It sort of runs, I've got to sort carbs, front brake, a service and possibly some tyres and then it's back on the road.
