Ok, guess i will only find out when i come to fit them, seems i am going against the grain refitting higher bars but  having lower shorter ones means all the cables are too long, plus theres no point trying to go quickly on these things, might as well be sat up in the breeze!

The rise sounds more than it is. From the first to the second bend is around 5 inches, 8 inches is from the centre section to the ends

Did they not make a 550 k2?

Hi, I am trying to establish if a pair of handlebars that came with my k2 are original North American spec. They measure 30 inches across with a rise of around 8 inches, they have an oval hole in the centre and one at each end for routing the wiring and are capped off at each end with plastic inserts. Any ideas?
Thank you.

I am fairly certain that the damper rod will be fine, like i said the dampers look almost new, the only thing wrong with them visually is some very light pitting on the shrouds.

How do they come off? Dont worry i will be careful, mate had a jaguar spring smash his jaw when a spring compressor failed.

Have managed to aquire a pair of dampers that dont look to have seen much use.
They have some very light pitting on the shrouds, is it possible to take them off for recroming?

Already checked bushes and bearings, seem to be ok. Is better with a passenger [lower ride height] so am thinking it is a geometry problem. sure i read somewhere 70s cb already had a short trail by the standards of the time.I am used to more modern bikes when a few  mm of ride height will make quite a big difference to the steering.

Ok thanks for the quick response!

I will check out the ebay guy. Yes above 80 mph it starts to feel distinctly unstable. although dosent feel as though its going to develop into a full blown slapper it is a little disconcerting and quite tiring to ride. shock absorber length is 13.5 inches. I think standard ones are 13 ?.

Hi all. Has anyone tried the replica shock absorbers from silvers? I have a K2 with aftermarket shock absorbers which are too long. Although they seem fairly well sprung and damped the increase in rear ride height is causing some interesting high speed stability issues ! Would like to sort this out but not at the expense of a wallowy rear end.

               Many thanks.

Misc / Open / Re: Petrol Tank paint stripped - a bad day..
« on: May 04, 2014, 01:18:32 PM »
Was the new paint applied over existing factory finish or was it over primer?. If its clear over base was the basecoat waterbased or solvent? Looks like the Top coat whether it be solid colour or lacquer hasnt adhered properly to the substrate allowing the solvent in the petrol to creep underneath. The reasons are probably irrelevant as to be sure of not having any problems in the future i would say the tank really needs to be taken back to bare metal and started again. Personally if using clear over base i would try to steer clear of waterbased basecoat especially on a fuel tank, waterbased products can take a  long time to flash off and if the lacquer is applied too quickly you will usually have problems afterwards.
