CB350/400 / Re: cb350 four performance
« on: December 04, 2021, 04:09:24 PM »
The 350/4 couldn't pull the cock off a jelly baby and is a 60mmph bike tops, but I wish I hadn't sold mine, I have a 78 z1000 and a 400 superfour and neither give me the smile my little old 350f did, i do regret selling it.

I have the jack affair too, but if you are in a hurry remove rear shocks pull down the rear end and secure it, you will also be able to chock the underneath forward of the stand, the front wheel will be high enough then, done it myself before i got the jack, i also have two eyes that screw into the floor that i put a ratchet strap through before to pull the rear ends down.

When they try to beat me down i counter with a higher price and say can you see where I'm going with this, or say i will let you have it for nothing and come round for the next ten years to service, clean and add fuel to it for you, then they look at me as if i am taking the pish.

Over bucket shims on the 900/1000's at least up to 1981, they have been known to spit them out on the odd occasion though resulting in an expensive rebuild.

Dave the plugs showing lean makes it appear like the problem is above, valve guide seal could be shot, not on or guide badly worn, before removing cam caps strap down the cams as these are notorious for stripping the cap threads, also these normally get small cracks between the spark plug holes and the valve seats and are very rarely anything drastic, if the motor was rebuilt at some stage there should not be a need to lap the valves in, i will hedge my bets here and would not be surprised if it's a guide seal problem.

I also made this which does just as well, you do a pair at a time, then one from each pair together.

Took a whole weekend to clean the lousy gold paint off the calipers to get to the stock finish,i blackened them with a Zebo type product, had a couple of shake down run, all going well, for a clean up it has turned out the usual way, as we all know Not cheap.

My own personal thoughts are go for a time sert or big sert system as these are a better fix and come in various lengths, they cost more, but my view is pay cheap pay twice, others may view it differently.
