hi i have a bike you may be interested in, it is a 550 k3 american import which i bought to canibalise for spares. i used the mudguards and some other parts for my other bike, but have got most of the parts to make it complete again. It is in need of a rebuild, and needs registering at dvla. I have had it running briefly,it sounded ok looking for offers around

CB500/550 / Re: Electrical help needed
« on: April 13, 2011, 11:35:23 AM »
i also have a k3 which was off the road for many years and when i fitted the new battery nothing much happened.i found that the fuse connections were not good they must be absolutely spotless, also dont forget the earth wire that fastens on the coil bracket, make sure it has clean metal to earth to.Another issue i had was one of the block connecters behind the fuse box was dirty and if not yet fitted it interupts the earth.Hope you get it sorted, electrics can be a nightmare! Actually i may have a spare loom in my shed, think it maybe a f1 though.Cheers, Mick

CB500/550 / Re: Where to buy new Spokes , rear
« on: April 12, 2011, 09:59:32 PM »
hi Kendo i recently got some stainless rear spokes from Central wheels, but did have  a bit of trouble, the first set were slightly too short, the second set were a little long!! As they make to order it may be best to send them a sample of your old spokes to be sure.Look nice now fitted with new rim and will not rust.Hope this helps, Mick

i had a problem with my 550, the pilot jets were completely blocked and refused to be cleaned.in the end i got some new ones, but had to order from Canada ! They dont like being left unused,if yours has been running they should clean ok.

hi, i too had this problem, and spent many days trying to solve it, in the end i did what you did and levered it on with a screwdriver! Once fitted it now seems to run fine, so hopefully yours will be ok (mine had to come off as the previous owner had set the valve timing wrong resulting in a bent valve, see my thread 3 cyl 550 )Good luck with your rebuild, regards,Mick

well after a strip down and replacement valve i now have a four cylinder 550 again! Got it back together and fitted my rebuilt wheels, had a ride down the drive, probably the first time it has moved under its own power since about 1982!! Feels great!!

glad to hear recomendations for the avon sm and ribbed as these are fitted to my k3, mainly as i wanted the vintage look and i remember them as being good tyres back in the 70s.Not on road yet so dont know how they handle!

both bike and engine have been in bits engine had been assembled when i got it, supposedly by a mechanic but the cam timing was wrong, i think when i turned the engine over it hit the piston.Moral of the story, always check yourself, dont take someone elses word for it!!

well i had a bit of time today so decided to take off the head. i got all the bolts and nuts off, but the head refuses to come apart from the cyl barrels, the whole assembly is loose from the crankcase. Any ideas chaps? I have tried tapping with a block of wood and gently levering but no luck. I dont realy want to take engine out again!!
