Interesting thoughts, especially part linked to electrolysis!

Nothing prevents to try it, to route one cable from carbs to bike ground point near to colis for example or main grouding point near to clutch lever. But to evaluate effect will take some time

I do believe that fuel stabilization additives helps to prevent fuel degradation, many people told me since they use them they do not observe these issues anymore. I mean additional additives they put into fuel.

As to why it has got partially blocked from being clean initially,  I've some thoughts on that which I'll put into another thread.

It'll be interesting to see how it performs after your reassembly.

Look forward to hearing your thoughts on this as I seem to have endless carb problems over the years all down to idle circuit issues

My mate got a 3k mile 500K1 from DK ...couldn't get it to run after extensive carb cleaning , new seals etc etc so he bought another set of carbs ... same thing .. so he was desperate to enter it in the Claasic Ramsey sprint,  so I 'loaned' him my 500K0 carbs and it ran brilliantly and I believe he won a race on it ... just need to prize my carbs back from him.. think he's taking it this year again and then it's time to get 'em back. The issues on the two 'failed' sets was corrosion of the casting where the main jets fit being eaten away. I did think of somehow sleeving it in brass ... maybe someone has done similar or has suggestions ... seems to be very common with 627B carb sets  :)
This is interesting information (corrosion)

Maybe can explain my issues too?
I have set 022A (US 550 K1) and suspect that my issues are caused by corrosion eat casting, despite carbs are clean after rebuilt by Gerben. He did blasting also from inside and a lot of pitting is visible on carb body inside bowl and casting of main jets too.

I'll continue in another thread

CB500/550 / CB550K1 - intake manifolds - Honda quality???
« on: July 30, 2019, 11:00:19 PM »
Hi all,

when troubleshooting my k1 mix issue, I was replacing also o rings between manifolds and head and also putting new rubbers between manifolds and carbs.

When I removed manifolds I was quite surprised:
1. pipe that connects to carb#2 (btw the one I still have issue with probablly? rich mix) is machined the way that grooves for insulator rubber are quite deep on one side and almost no grooves on another!!! How this cold pass quality check?? I'm looking for another manifold, see my post in "seeking"

2. "intake holes" inside manifolds are not really centered, I woould understand certain tolerance but this? Looks too much to me. Like that every cylinder will have different conditions for intake. Maybe at the end it does not influence 'standard" engine like this but still
So another reason I'm looking for another 1-2 manifold (3-4 is not perfect too but bit better)

Pics for better understanding attached, your opinions/experiences welcome!

Can you estimate impact on Boyer ingition to bike energy consumption? Because seems that other electronic ignitions like Dyna, Pamco etc are causing higher power consumption

Paul, not sure I understand your issue, isn't it rather too rich mix on low rpm symptom? The same I'm facing?

When you try to engage choke that should make mix richer (at least partially) it helps of make it worse?
If it helps, your mix is too lean, if it is worse, it is too rich... I'm not expert but this is my exprience

In my case I have clearly too rich mix and still did not fixed that (you know my thread well :) )

Thanks
Ordered OEM ones from DSS

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Re: Timing Light
« on: July 09, 2019, 12:21:39 PM »
I need to buy new timing light with tacho display (one I have does not work on higher rpms than 1500...)

Would you recommend some that is proven as working and reliable?

Or alternatively strobo only w/o tacho and then I need good separate tacho reader (digital)

CB500/550 / rubber manifolds (carb insulators) - OEM or replicas?
« on: July 09, 2019, 11:33:42 AM »
I decided to replace old one by new rubber (hoping it will be softer)

Dilema - shall I buy genuine Honda or replicas (lower price)? DSS sells both, OEM 16211-323-000 £5.95 per piece (w/o VAT), replicas BGCBB-323-000P £12.95 for set of 4...
Normally I would opt for OEM, but question is of OEMs are not many years old rubber anyway so hardened by age..

Ideally of someone has experience

No not LED’s normal bulbs but they are only 5w not the 21w that the original rear indicators had, at present there are 21w normal bulbs at the front and 5w normal bulbs at the rear.
Ok... But 5w legacy bulbs I suppose would be barely visible... Not very safe, I suppose. I would go for led in such case

Interesting!
I have original, 4 into 4 pipes.

Testing HC is definitely good idea, but I don't have access to, need to investigate...

But thinking more about it, my pipes are far from being perfect, all have small holes in lower seam and no1 and no4 (upper ones) have quite big holes on the bottom behind rubbers crossconnecting pipes at their back, see pics.

Can this cause my issue?

Pics of pipes and bike as it looks like attached

When I had carbs on the bench I did float height set to 22mm and then after closing bowls also with clear tubes, all were the same level. True is that after I did not test on engine. I hate that somehow as there is always gasoline on the engine, but will have to do.

Question is if one carb can cause behavior I'm experiencing?

So, I tried to play with air screws, seems settings 1.5turn is the best... Strange.
Attached pic of plugs, no change 2nd still much darker
