Title: another new member from the Netherlands
Post by: jensen on December 02, 2017, 05:25:02 PM
Hi,

I'm Jensen, living in The Netherlands. This forum was mentioned in one of my threads on the Hondatwins forum " http://www.hondatwins.net/forums/55-engine-discussion/33075-full-synthetic-oil-fresh-build-cb450-k0-engine-mile-0-a.html " by ashimotok0, so I subscribed. I thought I was already subscribed to this forum, but it appears that the http://forums.sohc4.net isn't the same forum. I was active there on one thread  " http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=65233.25 " . On this forum the thread on hondatwins is mentioned in the thread "http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php"./topic,14515.0.html

Riding several bikes, only one four, the CB400F '75, the rest are twins. I think that every forum member loves pictures, so here you go

Welcome to the forum Jenson, from a fellow 400four owner.
Great pictures of the bikes and my favourite holiday destination.

Julie, those are tulips BTW.

Julie, those are tulips BTW.
I sort of guessed that Mike, me being a very keen gardener and a fully paid up member of the RHS. I think a field full of flowers as a backdrop to a bike makes a stunning photo.

Welcome Jensen ...I hoped you would pick up on your mention on here and join us  :) .Your contributions on here will certainly be much appreciated by all of us. I have the  same bikes as in your pictures, except I don't own a CB450 5-speed only a Black Bomber K0 (my  400/4 is also a Varnish Blue model 1975 ). After Christmas, I intend only working 3 days/week, which will give me tons more time  to get on with my  bike projects and other related projects. I will have a total of 30 carbs to set up so I intend building up some equipment for flow monitoring the carbs and jets etc utilising some of the equipment pictured below and my own control/monitoring software written in Agilent VEE. Not pictured is a high air flow generator based on an adapted  vacuum cleaner  with speed control (I believe you also mentioned using an adapted vacuum cleaner). I will be reporting all of this in 'Anoraks Corner', which is a special section on here created by Steve Dennis, specifically for projects like this. This project is also of great interest to my new found friend Graham Curtiss (Gman), who I bet  you will know from Honda305.com   Cheers  Ash

Thank you all for making me feel welcome.

@Julie, yes they are tulips indeed, and in the Netherlands as you may know, not unusual to see in these large quantity's. I always plan a route through the area's where and when the fields looking like this.

I see a very nice CD175, one of the nicest twins I know. The looks of a CB450 K1 (gastank), combined with one of the nicest engines ever made (styling). The best of both worlds (CB72 / 77 and CB450 K1), love it..

AshimotoK0, thanks for your link to this forum. I wasn't aware that the thread on hondatwins.net was linked and discussed in other forums as well. It's just a some kind of diary or journal to describe my experiences with this kind of oil, especially on the subject breaking in a classic engine with a synthetic oil, more specific the Castrol 10W-60 EDGE oil with FST. Unfortunately I seem to be one of very view who do things like this, so there is no comparison with other experiences.

Next to that, writing such a journal takes a lot of time, time that I don't spend in answering questions of other people on subjects discussed many times before, and that is not always accepted or appreciated. Nor is it clear for me if such in-depth written journal contributes to a forum anyway, that's makes it hard to proceed. The other thing is that many arguments given by others are not based on measurements.

My back ground is Mechanical engineering and Physics and that maybe explains how I work.

@K2-K6, I did read your comments on the thread, and when appropriate I will respond.

There is a 'warmth' and kindred spirit on this forum that I have yet to find on any other bike forum Jensen. One of  my bikes I am restoring is the CD125 version of the Sloper CD175A, that I had as my 1st Honda Twin..way back when I was at school. I am building it in the style of this photo. It was not sold  in the UK but common in France. I picked up this lovely French  sales brochure for it on eBay recently.

Yes, one of the nicest models Honda ever made.

This is my 50cc version of this bike, a Honda CD50, candy sapphire blue. Bought is when young, and still have it.
The thing I would change of the early CD125 / 175 is the front fender, styling the same as the CD50.

Since I'm over 6 foot tall, and like to have a bike as a rider, the CD125 / 175 is just too small for me on trips longer then a few miles.

The sloper engine and the gas tank are working for me indeed, the sloper engine like a CB72 / 77 and the chrome tank panels and shape of the CB450 K1 tank.

Welcome to the forum Jensen. It's rapidly turning into the Dutch version. I'm sure you will fit in perfectly with Ash's anoraks corner. Just looking at the photo of Ash's table of technical magic, I don't understand much of it but I do love Ash's posts, always very technical and well written. I always learn something from those posts. I notice you have a Black Bomber, we have a brand new section for all things Bomberish so welcome aboard.

Hi Menno,

No, this is an older picture, still having the bad tank on it. Here the tank had already issue's, but were repairable until last year.
The tank I bough from you matches the bike colour near perfect, and is a one to one substitute to the bike.

Next riding season I will make new pictures, with the tank I bought from you, and place them on this website.

Sorry to hear, but I guess it's because in The Netherlands people are not serious about these bikes anymore.
