Misc / Open / Re: Sump gasket...what to think?
« on: Today at 12:49:05 PM »
Looks alright to me George as long as you knock out the bolt holes first! I grease paper gaskets on both sides, I just think it makes it easier to remove them although there are various thoughts if it is a good idea or not considering the heat of the engine. You shouldn't need any form of other sealent, Honda didn't use any and they made the bike!
That would be red grease yes?

I ordered a sump gasket for my CB400F2 as seen here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363126431330
What arrived today in the post.... see the image. Doesn't look quite the same to me :-\  Does the blue on the Interface gasket peel off or something? I'm doubtful I've got what I ordered. I'm not sure if I would need a sealant to use this one. Can anyone offer peace of mind or the opposite?

'All gone now'
Anyone would think they have died Julie!  :( See them as daughters that have flown the nest, I'm sure they have gone to good homes.  ;)
Meanwhile six still at home between two of you sounds manageable!  8)
My own mechanical mistress has got me all to herself!  ;D

Something strange is going on with some of the Gallery pictures. The first 8 or so pics have suddenly jumped up to 1800+ views but other pics are near normal numbers of views.
Any clues?
That might change again later we'll see. The web crawler thing that google and bing  et al uses does wonders for stats while it is about, it's complicated. Maybe these images have been linked to social media or something also?

These scooters are a menace, they are not interested in biking at all, they are a means to earn money with little outlay.
I know for a damn fact many are also on benefits too!

I think if they had the freedom of the bus lane, some of the questionable bike driving would not be necessary.  Hopefully my other fear of cyclists being more exposed by motorbikes would be addressed by all us 2 wheelers being aware of our own vulnerability??
As far as I've ever known since I returned to biking six years ago we are allowed in the bus lanes. The scooter delivery riders are mostly food express or worse, but certainly more law abiding than the average cyclist who seems to think the law is advisory only.
I rode as a realdespatch rider in the 1980-90s before technology broke the industry. Our mission was not very compatible with the law  ;)

CB750 / Re: CB750 F2 Primary chains
« on: April 29, 2024, 12:12:27 AM »

George, that only works on Hyvo primaries, like the 400/500/550's. 750 chains are different, they are not Hyvo, they are a lot thinner and there are 2 of them, side by side.
Ding dong....getting ahead of myself Julie!

Wear limit spec is 70mm. Does anyone know what this measurement is with a brand new chain?

If you place a primary chain upright and the top row sags to contact with the bottom row the chain is finished. As to how close you'll let it come to that I guess is up to you.

I'd check out David Silver Spares for something like that. https://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/

London's Mayor is up for election next week.

Sadiq the Idiot will only be in power if people vote him there. Or worse...don;t bother to vote, thus once more allowing a vocal minority who DO vote to dictate who is in power.
I will be getting up bright and early to vote against this power freak!

CB350/400 / Reaching tail light wires
« on: April 27, 2024, 02:34:49 PM »
Could it be my wires are too short or something? I had to bend the tang on my new tail light assembly to finally have the associated wire go on and the two other wires nearly had me burst a blood vessel.  >:( Honestly though when you have COPD it is things like this that make it show in the end. Is it easier to start undoing other things first. Any ideas?  ;)
