Cheers Archmill,
I`ve been a bit busy recently and have only just seen your reply, sorry. I shall send for some and let you all know the results. It`s cheaper than a new set of idle jets ;)

CB500/550 / Re: Are 'DIY' Ultra sonic cleaners any good for carb cleaning?
« on: November 26, 2011, 07:15:56 PM »
Hi, I bought one from Aldi a while back. Not big enough for the full set but I was wondering if it would be any good for a stripped set. I`m not sure what solution to use in it. I`ve used the pink vanish stuff that the wife puts in with the washing and it brings old coins and jewelry up a treat. but I don`t want to try it one my carbs in case it does damage.
Any thoughts anyone?
Cheers Nigel.

Been to look at the 250 tiddler today.......think that I`ll be giving it a miss. It`s all there, but it`s the state of everything that puts me off. He`s desperate to sell though. It was advertised at

Haven`t had the chance to even look at it never mind buy it!!!
Having recently moved to the area and bought a home, I seem to live and breathe D-I-Y, and job seek. Poor bikes haven`t had a look in, I even found out last week that the K3`s MOT ran out in October. Plus I can`t fit anything else in my garage at the moment, it`s full of boxes, central heating parts and re-wire bits, and plasterboard, and new doors, and everything associated with old house doing-up!
I`ve also thought about buying a T.A.G for if or when I find work. The traffic here in Taunton is horrific, 40 minutes to go 8 miles. Although I`ve seen quite a few `older` bikes about, a Morini 3 1/2 and a lovely dark green late 750/4.
When I get 5 minutes to spare I`ll give the number a ring and see if it`s still for sale and find out the general condition. If it`s too far gone then I won`t be interested.
Cheers Nigel.

Can anyone suggest the best solution to use in an ultrasonic cleaner? I`ve used that stuff the missus uses for the washing machine in the past, the pink stuff, but I`m going to have a go at the carbs on my 550 this weekend and am unsure if that`s too harsh.

Oooh yes...Hardknott and Wrynose, I remember them well, espescially the brake fade towards the Boot inn(?)!!
Ever tried the Flookburgh track? Watched Foggy there many moons ago, before he was famous.

Hi Tomb, welcome to THE club!! You aren`t one of the `hooligans` who have a run around south lakes on old bikes are you? I holiday a couple of times a year and stay in Satterthwaite, not too far from you, been going there for the past 14 years.  I watched about 12 oldies go past when I was walking through Rusland last year. The last bike through was on a trailer:(
I always fancied riding through the lanes, the only time I had a chance and the gearbox packed up on my bike. Been up through the Grizedale on an old Husquvana, quite an experience! I`m back up there in a fortnight, the first week in October but without the bike..
Jealous of your riding country though.

Not complaining about the countryside....just the noise!! Thought that I`d escaped that!! Smell???? Always blamed the wife`s cooking for that ;)
Cider.....probably the wrong part of the country to move to as I`m not much for the taste! Did all of the cider reach it`s destination??!!
When I eventually manage to get the K3 running half decent I`ll take you up on the offer of a ride out, the more the merrier! My local ride out used to be the Cat and Fiddle road, from Buxton to Macclesfield. What a road!! There`s me giving it my all, on my Honda, and all of the sports bikes passing me as if I`m standing still! But just to rub salt in a cb250 passed me >:(.

The only thing that comes down these lanes are tractors....at 2am!!!Combine harvesters with a million watt spotlamps in the fields opposite and 3 tractors running alongside... Bloody countryside!!!
 I`ll still wave..hope that you`ve good eyesight!

Misunderstanding on all sides!! I understand that the carbs have to come off the engine, do I have to strip the carbs right down after they are off or is it possible to access the slow running jets via the underside of the carbs by removing the float bowls, floats etc, or do I have to strip them completely? `cos last time I did that it took an absolute age to put them back together....and that was with notes and photo`s!!
Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Hhmmm, think that I did it that way when I took the engine out of the frame. But there was a lot more bits off as well. Can you access the slow jets without stripping the carbs right down? From `underneath` ie with the floats removed.
Like I said, all of my manuals are still in storage so I`ll be working blind.
