Title: Billet fork tops and parts
Post by: captaink on January 10, 2016, 05:46:08 AM
Hi all,
Having recently acquired a complete GL1000 fork assembly for fitting to my CB750 frame.
Rather than using the original fork top which will require major surgery to look good I was looking for a better looking billet one.
Any suppliers of these in the UK. ? or have I got to look in the USA ?
Any assistance appreciated

Also on stripping the forks an ally sleeve, correct part name oil lock piece was missing...  has anyone got one spare ?

I would also want to replace the fork top nuts for something better looking ,any suggestions ?

Regards
Keith

Hi Keith,
Just looking at my Haynes manual for 75 to 79 GL1000, I can't see a part labelled 'oil lock' but being a Haynes that doesn't mean anything!  Are you referring to the alloy sleeve with a taper at one end that the damper tube fits into?  Can you take a pic of tother one as I have a suspicion it's fitted to other forks too, including 350 and 400 fours.  I certainly have a spare for those if they are the same size.  Alternatively I could knock one up on the lathe if you supply accurate dimensions.

Just found the part in the 400/4 parts list described correctly, unlike Haynes, as 'piece, oil lock' with part number
51432-369-000. Is that your part number?

Checked my early 350/4 parts list and they are a different setup, apologies to anyone if I misled you by saying 350 and 400 are the same - they ain't.

Ian

Just found your part number for GL1000
51432-371-003
So they are different size but similar in appearance

If he's still going then Malcolm Sheperdson @ Malarkey engineering in Bishops Castle was making billet yokes back when I did work expirience there.
