Thanks Julie that's good to know, I'm going to put the black/silver one back on.

3
Mine is registered historic but the Cop told me it was only pre 1973 which could have black/silver plates.

4
Mine is yellow and black too, it was black and silver but I got stopped by the Rozzers and ordered to change it, the plate I'm using on the tracker is the original off the Cafe racer as the tracker is a Jap import and hasn't got a number yet, speaking of Rozzers anyone else still working and going in on the bike ? I've been stopped twice so far on my R1 going to or from work but never been stopped in the car, coincidence or anti-bike ?  I have work travel documents but they still gave me the 3rd degree.

Yes the number plate was a compromise but there was no room under the seat unless it was at such an angle only low flying aircraft could see it, funnily enough one of the comments I most remember was someone saying that as soon as I hit a bump "that ugly seat will be ripped off by the back wheel", that was 5 years ago and the photo above was taken last week. As my current project is a tracker there is a lot more room for the plate but it's still at a steepish angle.

I've been caned a few times for building this a few years ago, in my defence it was going to be broken for parts so I think I saved it. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Thanks guys, I think I will change the washers and see how it goes, when I rebuilt the engine about 4 years ago I couldn't find the torque setting then either so I used the same as the sump drain bolt.

Does anyone know the torque setting for the seal bolt in the picture, I have a slight weep from one of mine and don't want to over tighten it.

The work was fine but there is absolutely no excuse for lying to customers.

Matbe as there are a few dissatisfied Pitted forks/Philpots/AMP Hardchrome customers on the RD club forum.

Someone else from the Aircooled RD Club sent the stanchions and tubes to them for a full refurb and got them back with the drain screws not tightened, they had leaked all over the inside of the box and he had to send them back because he couldn't get the top nuts off to refill them, they did put them right but it doesn't instil confidence.

When I did my Yamaha RD I had the stanchions done by Philpots because you can't get new/pattern ones for it, fortunately when I did the 400F1 cafe racer I got a new set from DS, I say fortunately because I will NEVER use Philpots again, what was promised as a 3 week job took over 3 months and they constantly lied to me, "they are in op" then a fortnight later "he will be starting them today" , next we had "the guy doing yours is off sick" etc. etc.

Have you re jetted for the pod filters  ? When I got velocity stacks the bike started and idled better with #38 slow jets, I also couldn't get them balanced properly with #40.

It was at the Donnington Classic Bike Festival yesterday, I didn't go but the guy who took the photo said there was nobody around to ask about it.
