CB500/550 / Re: What model of cb500

The numbers march the ones in the v5 but it doesn't tell you the exact model- the v5 also states the colour is green but it did have the gold almost metalflake looking paint under it before I took it back to bare metal.

Anyone?? They arrived yesterday, very nice looking rearsets. I need to know if I need a brake return spring setup like the original brake lever and how people have fitted the brake light sensor when using aftermarket sets...

Anybody bought or used torozzi rearsets on their cb500?? (or any other bike for that matter) im looking into buying a set and wondered if people have had any suggestions on fitting them and if they will clear the kickstarter. i know im going to have to build custom mounts for them and make my own linkage etc. If anyone else has tried any other rearsets they can recommend or help with fitting that would be awsome, its for a cafe racer so standard just wont do. cheers.

I wish we had scrapyards like that too. The quality of the bikes they can pick up for a couple of hundred dollars is amazing- it took me forever to source a bike close enough to where I live and I had to pay a lot more than it was worth, it had missing parts, rust everywhere, someone had taken a pair of scissors to the wiring loom etc etc if I was in the USA I would have paid about $200 but here it cost me close to

It's repeated constantly on turbo, much like every program they have on that channel I keep tuning in to see if it's a new episode every week but they constantly cycle the series over and over again- not that I'm complaining as there are some nice looking bikes on it.

Think I have seen every episode now it's pretty good, some good inspiration if your building a cafe racer but it's more about the culture ( well the American version of the culture, mods vs rocker rallies etc ) rather than giving you technical information. They skim over builds and don't go into the mods done in much detail unfortunately but to fit it into a half hour show I suppose that's what they have to do. They do show a few British built bikes and there's interviews from the ace cafe and British cafe riders. I would definatly recommend it for people interested in cafe racers, hopefully there will be a second series.

i have come to the conclusion i have to fit rearsets as my boots are going to hit the engine casing when shifting (size 15 boots) has anyone on this site fit aftermarket sets to thier bike? either by bolting straight on or through modification of other parts. if anyone has pictures or links to sites they know of that sell or may be able to help it would be greatly appreciated.

CB500/550 / Repairing fins
« on: March 07, 2011, 07:00:46 PM »
Some of the cooling fins on my engine have chunks snapped out of them and some are a bit bent out of shape and I don't have the missing pieces it looks like the bike has been dropped by a PO or something. Has anybody repaired there's? Is it an easy job or shall I just replace the cylinder head/ block? Don't really want to spend much money as it's costing me enough to repair the bike as it is so if I can repair that would be better.

hahahahaha thanks.

legal, brilliant.

whats that all about then  ???

Did it pass the MOT I mean. Would love to use a few of the ideas you have on my own bike- same filters and removing the rear mudgaurd. It's a really nice bike.

Wow that bike is lush! I asked in another thread about chopping the rear mudgaurd off like that and if that's a uk legal bike I'm going to go ahead with it. Really nicely put together props to the builder.

There are many instances of folk who have travelled the world without incident , just to get pulled over and haranged as soon as they come down the M4...
The cops in West Wales are bad enough, but that evil barsteward who used to run North Wales constabulary, Richard Brunstrom aka "The Mad Mullah of the Traffic Taliban" was worse by far! I remember when he used a photos of a dead biker in a press conference to show just why he was down on bikes, the poor sod was hardly cold in his grave and there's Brunstrom showing pictures of the guy's decapitated head (without his family's permission) to illustrate a point!  >:(

I remember hearing about that, absolutely disgusting he could do that. The angel is still open yes, not sure if that's a good thing though. I have lived here all my life and can't remember there ever being an army surplus store, my dad reckons that might have been shut for 20 years!! I don't think there is an alternative to the graig as everything is steadily shutting down it's becoming a real ghost town.

The graig haha I just asked my dad about that place as I had never heard of it, he reckons it's been shut about 10years. The council forced them to fix it as it was falling apart. I really don't get what the police have against motorcyclists sometimes I have a mate who is a pcso and he came over to me and another mate of mine who has a bike and after saying hello the next thing out of his mouth was are those standard cans? And he was looking around for markings on them it's like it's drilled into them as soon as they start.

I went to college in carmarthen, we have some good roads down this part of the country, can't wait to finish this build and take it out for a spin, best place to to test my first ever classic bike. Couldn't agree more with you about the cops in this part of Wales I know plenty of people who have been pulled in cars and bikes for trivial reasons I know they are only doing their jobs but it can seem a bit much sometimes. I remember reading in mcn a while back about a guy who was pulled over because his licence plate was millimetres too small when a guy came speeding past them well over the speed limit and they kept  going on at him rather than catch someone doing something that puts others in danger. There's a certain officer everyone knows in this area who does that sort of thing but I won't name names.

The front mudgaurd can stay I suppose but the plan was to remove the rear mudgaurd and mount the brake light and licence plate directly under the seat to shorten the back of the bike up but if I need to cover more of the rear wheel that idea might be out of the question. I have been using a lot of the USA modern cafe racers as inspiration but obviously they have more lenient laws over there.
