Title: 250 Shite hawk
Post by: mike the bike on May 31, 2019, 06:53:14 PM
I'm looking at getting a rat bike to travel to work, as I don't want to ride the 400four in claggy weather
Has anyone got anything to say about a CB250 Nighthawk?

Wife had one, just sold it after about 10 years ownership this spring. Good points, boringly reliable, bad points, suspension a bit crap, fork stanchions rubbed through the chrome in 30k miles, not very exciting to own, rear drum brake tend to wear in ridges so brakes always awful with new shoes until they bed in to the ridges. Chains seem to be vulnerable to breaking, dont bother with any budget brands and even with Did O ring ones you need to keep on top of oiling and adjustments and replace sooner than later. Battery never lasted more than a year or 2, despite charging system testing out ok and using an optimate charger.

The listing has ended and no one bid on it. He/she wanted £330 so I offered 250.

Is it the same engine as the CD250u?

It is not a night hawk. A night hawk has spoked wheels and a front drum brake so, its a two fifty  ;)

it is the same engine as a CD but, with a tacho drive fitted and a single carb. The oil pump is a pig to remove the 3 machine screws to clean the scavenge filter  :)

Its definitely called a nighthawk in the later cast alloy wheels, disk braked version, just about the only bit of the user manual I could read on my wifes Italian import one. We got £200 for ours which was well used and had an oil leak from the head plus the usual array of rust from commuting. Other weak point, balance pipe rots out, long before rest of exhaust.

I offered 250 and she said no.  Not bothered so I'll keep looking.
