That reminds me of a C90 someone delivered to me some time ago, put some petrol in and hooked up a battery and started and ran sweetly. The PO assured me that it hadn’t run for 30 years, took the engine out and dumped the rest. Ironically delivered to the recycling centre, can they recycle rust?

CB750 / Re: RPM hang at idle throttle.

Hi for what it’s worth I thought that characteristic was something that I was just going to have to live with on my K3. Until I removed carbs for the third time and pulled pilot jets cleaned system thoroughly. It now idles as it should runs smoothly and no longer hangs on to revs. The reason I pulled the carbs was because of the poor starting and rough idle.

CB750 / CB750K3 replacement Seat
« on: June 20, 2020, 08:55:30 AM »
Hi all, Any recommendations for the replacement seats from P&K Classics. I had my 550k3 seat refurbished by them and I was very happy. Just wasn’t sure about the reproduction base etc. Looking for 750K3 seat.

Cheers Bryan, yes I remember these when I stripped the carbs. They were all replaced, the bike is running well but not starting well when cold. I do have resistor plugs fitted at the moment but have another set of non resistor plugs to fit. Also dropping back to correct pilot screw setting might help. Thanks for your help!

Thanks very much! found in Alladins Cave, just as I thought 1 1/2 turns. Yes they don’t make it easy I was beginning to think I had a set of 500 carbs, which I probably do but common to 550 also.

CB500/550 / PD46A setting
« on: June 08, 2020, 10:41:41 PM »
Hi all, can anyone tell me what the base line setting is for the pilot system for my K3 as my Haynes doesn’t even cover these carbs. They are set 2 turns at the minute but I have a feeling they are supposed to be 1 1/2.

CB500/550 / Re: Ongoing PD46 carburettor woes (possibly)
« on: June 03, 2020, 09:29:58 AM »
I have experienced a bit of these woes, as many of the people on here have. I have had my carbs off three times and have found the easiest way for me is to remove air filter box and drop air box collector with intake rubbers attached loosen off 8 m6 nuts from intake manifold pull back and slide out. This is probably not much help but I have juggled between poor or faulty plugs “ngk” and blocked pilots and this was even after an initial complete strip and rebuild of carbs. I remember prior to a complete restoration of my bike I took the carbs off and they were ultrasonically cleaned, made no difference whatsoever probably pilots blocked. Also all four had blocked vents. I now have a bike that runs and ticks over very nicely, in fact I have never had the bike running like this in the 33 years I have owned it. You will get there, (hope it doesn’t take 33 years)! Good luck!.

Small brass interference fit sleeve over it would sort it provided it didn’t interfere with float movement, if you knew somebody with a lathe. Otherwise replace carb body.

Hi Simon, that’s reassuring to know, when I purchased mine I think it was just at the start of re- production as I had waited a number of years to get a set. Thanks for reply!

Has anyone on this forum had to use a series of ratchet straps and levers to fit a replacement set of exhausts which are supposedly been designed and manufactured to fit your particular model.  >:( >:( >:( I suspect I’m not the only one, very annoying to fit to a newly painted frame without damaging or chipping. These pipes were purchased a few year ago I’m hoping that they are better now.

« on: May 09, 2020, 10:44:49 AM »
Nice looking bike, if only we could take them out on the road. I’ve done a fair bit of fettling with mine, plugs out, plugs in, carbs off, cleaned pilots again carbs back on, electronic ignition off, points back on etc etc. I’ve now ended up with electronic ignition back on and pilot air screws 2 turns out and she is running and idling pretty good, but might be a spluttering heap once out on the road. I don5 like just running her in the garage as the engine has been fully rebuilt, need to get it working. I’m up in Orkney by the way.

CB500/550 / Handlebar control lettering paint.
« on: March 03, 2020, 07:11:27 AM »
Hi all, anyone know what an appropriate colour would be for a 1977 CB550K3 handlebar control paint would be. I read somewhere that it’s more an orange rather than a red. I’m not sure so I appeal to the knowledge and power of the forum.
