Title: Caliper
Post by: AndyD on September 12, 2020, 07:37:49 PM
Hi,
Does anyone know if the Wemoto and DSS replacement brake caliper are the same item or different / better / worse etc.
Looking to replace the existing one and Wemoto is cheaper so wondered in there was a difference.

Cheers,
Andy

I have the DSS caliper, hoses and and master cylinder assembly on my bike....no complaints!

Same here. Both master and caliper aftermarket. Master had a bolt under which I replaced with the standard flat plate they sell. It keeps a rubber tube ‘buffer’ in place.
EBC semi sintered pads took a while to bed in but are now very good, well worth the money. Adjusted tight and backed off so the wheel only drags very slightly, almost spinning freely after lever applied, then again after bedded in.

Thanks all,
Looks like the way to go as the original caliper I've got is soaking in oil to hopefully loosen a broken bleed nipple - might be a longer term bit of work to get it back working.
I also just wondered if the one from Wemoto is the same caliper as it's a chunk cheaper than DS - I guess they both use the same manufacturer for various replacement parts and hoped maybe that applied to the caliper so i could save a few pounds

Cheers,
Andy

My master and the seal groove in the caliper had very slight but terminal corrosion. Hopefully now sold for a fiver to someone with the necessary engineering equipment to properly resurface.

Wemoto source parts from DSS (so master cyl in a DSS repro for example) so I imagine they’re likely identical

I wanted a replacement speedo for my 400F and DSS were out of stock. After waiting a while I chased it up adn was told that “Honda only deliver twice a week”

So DSS seem to source, at least some, parts from Honda! And then presumably mark them up considerably.

Is there a Honda source that the public can go to directly? Other than a dealer of course.

Sliver can not get a discount from Honda as, he is not a recognized Honda dealer. He must biggy back another Honda dealer  ;)

Sorry, too many painkillers for the arter makes you fuzzy, now back to as normal as i ever am i meant to say Honda dealer.
Back when i worked for an independant and Honda worked through a select number of "big" dealers for parts,  like Fowlers, Bill Head, Bill Smith, Lings etc we used to get 30% if we ordered using part numbers
