Waste of time carrying a split link. What for? If the chain snaps it generally does so much damage you're not riding home again. That's if you still have your leg intact  ::) ::)

500 is ok for a split link, had one fitted for many many years and very handy for removing the chain so you can clean/oil it. Especially if like me you used Duckhams Chainguard which you melted on the stove and put the chain in, great stuff until you drop the tin all over your mums kitchen floor and it sets instantly.

The ball bearing was there to aid neutral selection Bryan, that's why there is a recess in it for the ball to drop into, it's in the exact place it needs to be for neutral. They replaced it with a collar which as you say helps stop the drum sliding around and improved the selectors inside the clutch area. The upgrade kit had all the selector mechanism as well as the new bolt for the top IIRC.

The old selector system just wasn't good enough to allow an easy selection of neutral, the yanks complained like hell and got it changed as they had the K0 way before us.

Looks like 8 sets sold. I'll wait a couple of days to see if the last set sells and keep a set for myself.

The very early 500s had a small ball bearing with a spring, on the shift drum there is an indent and the ball bearing would go into it and help with neutral selection. However there were some problems with it and Honda redesigned it and issued a recall for all the early ones so they were changed to the later design. The later type has the same bolt but instead of the ball bearing and spring there is a collar which fit's over the shaft at the base of the bolt. The selection mechanism inside the clutch case was also changed.

All the K1 500s have the newer design and most of the K0s after a certain engine number also have the newer design.

It’s possible the bike has been fitted with a David Silver wiring harness, these are known to not follow the same colours as the original Honda wiring harness.
This is what I have, and no, the colours do not always make sense. Is the DSS version US spec or something?

Reports from members who have fitted a DS loom is that whilst all the connectors are correct the wire colours are not. Some are but a lot differ, for instance a red/white wire could be a red/yellow on a DS loom. If you do a search of the forum you can see members asking for advise on how to wire them up but most return the loom as it's not really good enough. Ok I suppose IF you have some electrical knowledge of the bike but otherwise it's confusing as hell.

There was a thread just a few weeks ago, which is why it was fresh in my mind.

It’s possible the bike has been fitted with a David Silver wiring harness, these are known to not follow the same colours as the original Honda wiring harness. So even though Ted is 100% correct in saying the headlight uses blue wires it may not do so now. However the original equipment will still have the correct colours on, the wiring from the headlight bulb for instance should still have the 3 original wires of green, white and blue. The wires from the panel should also be original. So find the blue wire coming from the panel, find the blue wire coming from the headlight bulb holder and make sure they connect to whatever colour wire the new harness is using. It should work then as planned.

Check the very last post on this thread.

The bottom pic is the CB500/550 neutral switch and you can clearly see the part you found in the bag.

I found one in an old box in the shed some months ago, switch and rotor IIRC.

I'll send it with the stuff with the fork sliders when I finally get round to doing them. The envelope with the small bits is sealed and TBH I don't think it would have gone in anyway.

Which bit do you need Roo?

I have a couple of the rotor bit, about the same nick as yours, there should be a small bump on the back which located into the slot on the end of the gearchange drum, the part which sticks through the seal. However it's not vital as so long as you fit it correctly and the screw/bolt is tight so it doesn't move it will work fine.

The other bit, you can either repair it or try and find a new one. I do have a couple of them if you need one, got 2 off those engines I just split.

Primary chain tensioner and bracket, oil control valves, 2 headlight mounts and a setring all bagged up and will be sent down Monday Roo.

I know I said I'd sent those internal for your front forks but just thought, what's up with the current springs as those are proving a little difficult to package.

Think it was this link re the primary chain tensioner Roo.

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,80690.25.html

Yep, that's the same stuff I now use. Expensive ain't it?

The bad thing about the primary hub screws is you don't need to remove them to change the damper rubbers.
