Title: CB500K1 front brake stop switch
Post by: AndyH on December 12, 2020, 10:17:07 AM
Hi folks, it appears the subject switch on my K1 has packed it in!   :(
DSS et al apparently don't have any in stock.
Can the switches be refurbished in any way?

Thirty quid posted or so on eBay but someone on the forum should have a good used one. They are common to loads of models.

OK so DSS were able to source a genuine replacement from their US store, which arrived yesterday.
Is there a way to replace the faulty switch without having to completely drain the brake fluid?

Fraid not, as soon as you remove the old switch it will allow air into the system, try clamping the pipe above the junction to stop the fluid draining down from the master cylinder as that will make bleeding the system afterwards much easier.

Thanks.

I sometimes recover them by applying a very high voltage across them, whilst operating them hydraulically. Once the spark across the contact gap  cleans away some of the contact corrosion, they often come back to life again. Then once a resistance is built up,  by repeatedly switching a couple of amps through them  from an inductive load (e.g. like the solenoid start switch coil) they gradually build up a very low resistance again.

However if they have leaked hydraulic oil inside they are generally fooked. Same goes for engine oil pressure switch and similarly for 400/4 etc horns.

Also plenty around used, as stated previously.
