Or get it ceramic coated, resistant to heat and brake fluid. Not expensive either, possibly as cheap as buying a tin of aerosol and no stinking up the kitchen curing it.

Oil leak or compression leak?

I’d do a compression test and see what that reads, if ok then reuse the existing rings, if not consider replacing them after checking the bores/pistons/rings first before buying anything.

Test the existing springs to see how they perform, they’ll most likely be ok. One sits inside the other iirc

If you watched the GT750 restoration build that Henry Cole did last year (which is being repeated now) the bill for his chroming was £1750.

I can’t remember if they mentioned who does his chroming but I do remember on a previous build him doing a tour of the workshop and it was a pretty dirty place so probably not Ashford by the sound of it.

Do they do a postal service as not all of us can drop off parts.

Parts look good Dave but I’m betting it comes at a high price.

Certainly better than 135w for main and side they were quoting.

For a home brew kit that's pretty good. I thought you were using something like the Gateros kit, which TBH most people use on here.

Why Honda thought it was a good idea to paint the upper but not the lower crankcase is beyond me, looks awful imo. Didn’t do it on the 750 or 500/550 models, not even sure they did it on the 350.

From all accounts the zinc/nickel kit gives even brighter and harder results.

As for the missing spots, because of the aeration and the bubbles, if you position a part so that air can become trapped underneath you’ll find the plating doesn’t stick to those parts as the fluid is held away from the metal by the air bubble.

Never seen a kit produce such dull results, maybe the fluid was contaminated?

Well I've fitted thousands of LEDs and those are explained wrong. What they are saying is that they are equivalent to those wattages, not that they'll draw that much power. 45w for a sidelight??? add running one of the beams as well and you're likely the flatten the battery very quickly.

Fair play, although TBH I've not seen a switchgear burn out due to power demands, shorts yes. Doesn't hurt to play safe though. IIRC the draw for an LED headlight is about 10-15w only.

If it's an LED Paul the draw will be nowhere near enough to warrant a relay.

Why have I got dragged into this conversation ???;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Not a bad tip about the shrink wrap, done similar on the brake return spring but never considered it for those springs.

Zinc plating turned out really dull, you sure it took?

I've done a few of these now and found the holes for the pin had started to elongate, this allows the peg to rattle and ends up making it worse. Due to no doubt Honda not greasing them from the factory and of course we never think to grease them until it's too late.

Same for the tunnel the pin runs through on the peg, I ended up going slightly bigger on the pin size and replacing them with stainless steel pins, washers and split pins.

I think for the 6mm pins (rear pegs) I went with 1/4" and the front pegs with 3/8" but could be wrong, been a while since I did a pair. Also a small blob of weld on the carrier where the peg hits makes them sit straight, nothing worse than pegs hanging crooked IMO.

TBH Ted if they'd said oh we made a mistake, we'll let you have them for half price I'd have been happier.

As it turns out I doubt I'll be using them for a long while, managed to source 5 sets of standard 550 rings to go with my new set of barrels, measured them today with a bore gauge and they look to be almost perfect with very little wear. They all measured 58.5mm which is the standard bore size. When the new rings arrive I'll pop a ring down and see what the end gap looks like.

Well after a very lengthy phone call with Honda UK I can confirm they will be taking this matter up with CMS, they are asking for photos of the rings, copies of the emails etc and have said they'll be passing the matter onto to Honda head Office to keep them advised of the situation.
