Hi all just taken cam cover off again looks like valves sticking. Do these get any lubrication? the reason I ask is that the channel under the cam is full but the area where the valve springs is dry, is it just splash fed from the cam, can i put some oil in there to lube the valve stems. Iain

yes, squirt plenty through the springs onto the stem

Why oh why would someone want to put back one of the worst things that Honda ever fitted. Like Bryan and Bitsa it was one of the first things we removed, even if the owner wasn't complaining about a misfire. Truly, truly awful things, you couldn't touch any part of the leads or caps when it rained, or you'd get an almighty electric shock. It was so bad that I ended up wrapping insulation tape all the way down from the coils to the plug caps just to stop the arcing.

For the sake of humanity stop this madness before it catches on.

I agree, original is not always the best, unless the bikes are going to be Concourse standard show bikes that have no engine internals
and never get ridden

surely you can't get it 180 degrees out as long as crank is in correct position and cam notch lines up it cant be wrong?

the problem was,I had lined the crank at TDC 1-4 ,and the cam notch at 3pm ish !!

but ,spent about an hour struggling to fit chain to sprocket,to shaft, during that time the crank got moved, mugs of tea
nearly got thrown across the garage, this at 9pm friday night, the day before going off on holiday,

it finally fitted, everything rotated as it should,no rockers fitted yet,

BUT !!

while I was away,I gave it some thought, and decided to check the timing when I got back,
sure enough,it was well out, but,I remembered how to fit it quickly,so job done, properly
timed
and all back together,
only other assemble hassle is the airbox-cargs etc

dont want to either again in an hurry

took me about an hour to realise that,

and when I fitted it it was 180 degrees out of crank,

luckily it was before and after a vacation,so when I returned,I sorted it before I turned the motor

cant tell for sure from photo but yours does seem to be similar to mine, I am sure my old one hugged the tyre more closely.

mine is as supplied in 1974,apart from extra disc,

I thought both 500 and 750 used 3.25 X 19

I have about 12mm side gap at max tyre width,

what tyre have you ?

Tricks & Tips / Boyer Ignition on the SOHC 4's
« on: November 25, 2013, 04:57:36 PM »
I have a CB500-4,

I have had it since about 1977,its an M plate,

I have fitted Boyer ignition, its proved very good ,and reliable,
but , some thing that has happened twice in the past 25yrs is worth mentioning,

the general instalation is easy,

but over time, check the connection of the 2 wires on the sensor plate,

I have found the small screws that are the connections for the sensor coils becomes loose, giving poor starting and slow speed running,

hopefully I have cured my issues using lock washers,

will let you know over the next 25 yrs

As soon as I'm safely on my new server I will install the map (and some other stuff that I've been looking at)

At the moment, it won't even let me install the latest security updates...

 :(

keep up the good/excellent work Steve,
this site is worth its weight in "GOLD" !!!!
