Good to see the colours in the right order - during lockdown I stopped being the apostrophe police, and instead started to get wound up by incorrect rainbows in window posters.

The wife pointed out that they were probably  done by children, to which I suggested that she taught them the correct colours (she’s a primary school teacher).

A couple of years ago we spent a weekend in Otterburn in Northumberland, the weather was mixed and we saw dozens of rainbows, that anniversary will always be remembered as our ‘rainbow anniversary’, we’d seen one from the car just after we got married in Whitby, on the way to the reception at Ravenscar.

Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vein. Also the pic shows a double rainbow. The colour sequence in the outer rainbow is reversed. VIBGYOR.

Is that because the second rainbow is a mirror reflection of the first?

Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vein.

Me too. But my Richard gave battle in vain.

Not sure how he’d do with a blood vessel

Oops.  :o

On the second rainbow, if conditions are just right then there is a second reflection from the raindrops, hence the colours being reversed.

I have to admit that was two different days last summer in our local park.

Some years ago, one winter I was on a night navigation course here in Orkney at full moon, part way up a hill we stopped for a food and drink break and it started to rain.  For the first and only time in my life we were treated to the spectacle of a 'Moonbow'.  I hadn't realised there was such a thing!  No mobile (for me) back then and not sure it would have captured it anyway. It was obviously much paler than a rainbow but memorable nevertheless.
