The kit I bought from DS consisted of strainer, large rubber bit with holes as post plus 2 O rings and the  connector. I used my original connector as it was brass rather than plated steel.

I had the repair kit from DS but retained the original large O ring as I wasn't keen on putting two O rings in. If the tap is leaking externally by the lever you pretty much have to use the two rings. I cleaned all the staining off the plastic centre part - so far it hasn't leaked. There are two O rings in the kit as the ones supplied are too thin. It's a shame they are not supplied with one ring the right size. My tank filter was in shreds so it was worth the cost.

Misc / Open / Re: Frame Painting is Powder Coating best?
« on: October 30, 2020, 10:47:11 AM »
Thank Guys tbh the responses sort of flagged up some of my fears. My brother has had dozens of pedal cycle frames powder coated never had a flexing issue so that was an interesting point raised about stands. There is a very good firm in Bot area that my BiL uses - he is a friend of the owners so that helps.
I assume there no touching in option with powder coating?

Pretty sure DS will do them just search via part number if not on the main list.

Misc / Open / Frame Painting is Powder Coating best?
« on: October 30, 2020, 12:27:44 AM »
I understand the benefits of powder coating in terms of more paint on edges where the electrical charge attracts extra paint particles but what is this best way to restore your frame?

Assuming you do not have your own powder coating large oven etc is Powder Coating actually the best way to go?
I see the benefits if its done by a good firm - no doubt they will strip the frame etc so not much preparation involved for the customer aside from the initial strip down aspect.

What happens when you damage the finish is there a way of touching up that works?
I'm not a purist so the fact that the technology was probably not around means its not an original finish but who cares if its the best.

Is everyone on sohc a Powder Coater convert? :-\

Try 400 four bits. If you can't see what you are looking for, email Steve and ask, he is a very helpful chap.

I clicked on the link - there are no prices listed how does that work?

Thanks for the information Al you're a star.
The lower photo is clearly brighter with a nice cut off - I will probably end up putting an LED bulb in the unit like I have with our older Jeep WJ. The seller on e-bay does a wide range of basically similar designed replacement bulbs with different fittings - they have a decent alloy heat sink with a cooling fan. Just need to be sure there is clearance at the back of the bowl. The cut off is good on dip with not too much scatter on main beam and they are nice and bright without being too blue in appearance. The wattage shown in the description is obviously wrong - something is lost in translation they are slightly lower than the Halogen bulbs they replaced. Before my next MoT I intend to have a word to see if I need to put the old bulbs in for the test. Luckily the bulbs on the old Jeep are really easy to install. The short wiring loom connectors/adapters fit perfectly. I'm pretty sure that Autofather make a suitable replacement Main/Dip type bulb.

Mine is the same black gloss with white plastic colour inside.

I think its original looking at the damage to it & rust stains from the holding nuts.

CB350/400 / CB400F2 - Headlamp options ?
« on: October 26, 2020, 11:50:11 PM »
The headlamp shell on my bike is cracked in 3 areas where screws fit - its plastic so not worth repairing. DS have shells at £23.94, my headlamp is original so basically that needs replacing (£34.80) plus the rim has been damaged the rim price alone on DS is £70.80!!.
I'm guessing the light beam is pretty poor by modern standards so an outlay of £129.54 plus postage I will end up with an expensive candle.

I'm not to worried about originality in this area so am wondering if there is a decent aftermarket lamp that fits between the mounting brackets that measure as a width of 7.25" / 1840mm or thereabouts?

I guess an alternative might be to alter the mounting brackets to accommodate a bigger headlamp possibly a decent LED unit that will also give lots of light output for fewer watts of electricity, has anyone here gone down this route ?
