Can anyone advise on where to obtain cheap Super Sport decal for my CB550F. And is the Super Sport decal for the CB400F the same size as CB550F? I am asking this question because i do not understand the big price difference that DSS charge between the two models.

Misc / Open / The Copper slip/grease debate
« on: January 06, 2014, 09:12:52 PM »
I built a Kawasaki z650b1 engine some 19 year's ago. Today it was time for a strip down. I had forgot what pigs these are to get out with out scratching the frame. All inline fours are much easier to lay the frame down on a thick polystyrene sheet, unbolt the frame and lift it off. All engine casing bolt's had a smudge of copper slip when i built this all those year's ago. The bolt's removed easily apart from one on the sprocket cover, but one smack from my impact driver and it was free. I guess some NASA scientist will comment very soon. Basically grease is not compressible and is used in roller bearing's to lubricate the rolling action. Copper anti seize is compressible and is good for threads to help any seizing problems due to oxidization. Most people over do it, when you only need a smidge. Never use copper slip/grease on titanium. There are some copper slip/grease on the market that are a little to copper colored and feel a little course, keep away from this cheap imitation. Copper slip/grease is too viscous to be used on any moving parts and never use it on any external parts of a motorcycle.

Misc / Open / What is the best? ultrasonic or vapour blast
« on: December 30, 2013, 10:50:35 AM »
Everyone keeps saying that ultrasonic is the best for carb cleaning. My local classic engineering firm (T&L engineering,Bedford) don't have ultrasonic cleaning, only vapour blasting. I have used T&L for some 25 years and i am very happy with the results.  Has anyone ever used both methods and was the results any different?.

I am restoring a CB550F at the moment and can not make up my mind on to polish the hubs or have them powder coated with this so-called Super chrome powder coat. Has anyone had any parts powder coated with super chrome?. The last hubs i had polished looked naff after a couple of months due to brake dust.

CB500/550 / Question for the 550F boy's and girl's
« on: December 16, 2013, 08:19:25 PM »
I am going to get my tank re-spayed because some idiot had glued the Honda badges on,which has effected the paint. I have seen some tanks with decal strips, and some without. Also I've seen some with a Super Sport decal under the Honda badge, and  some without. Can anyone tell me what is the correct decal for a CB550F2?.

Misc / Open / 250-L series
« on: December 15, 2013, 10:18:50 PM »
I have been thinking where to put this question on the forum. Well, here is a good place. Many, many years ago was an old engineering company that would have crisp boxes full of 250-L series connectors, but times have changed and that good old engineering company is long gone. So does anyone out there know of a company IN THE UK that sells these connectors?.
