My CB500 doesn't get a lot of use but I fire it up weekly and let it run for half a hour. The clutch plates tend to stick to one another and I have to rev it and stand on the rear brake to free them. I did that last week but noticed afterwards a rumbling sound when I held the clutch lever in. I've taken the outer clutch cover off and noticed rubbing on the raised boss on the inside of the cover (I have photographed it). It looks to have been rubbed by the clutch plate cover. Everything seems tight, there is a little bit of in/out movement in the clutch basket but I don't think it is exessive (1mm). I'm just wondering if I've damaged anything?

The number is on the inside of the R/H leg between the threaded calliper mounting holes. My bike was built pretty late so I assume it benefitted from a lot of 550 parts, it has the larger tachometer and speedo and the 550 fuel tap. The original tank paint job was the later K2-K3 style. I replaced the bridge pinch bolts for shiny new ones, I thought I needed the 8X54 bolts as these were correct for the bikes with my paintwork, headlight ears and fork lowers CB550K2, but when I came to use them they were too short and I did need 8X56 bolts. It seems the later bikes were made up with whatever was lying around.

I've got an Italian K2 import, both legs have brakes bosses and are stamped 341 which is the later leg as fitted to the 550. The yoke pinch bolts are slightly bigger than the K1 and the headlight brackets have seperate indicator holes as well

Read a few dodgy reviews on here about RS Chrome so ended up going with Chromefix at £55 each all in. Posted them off today and supposed to get them back in 6 weeks

RS Chrome and Colonnade have each quoted £40 each plus VAT, Colonnade have had a couple of dodgy reviews so may go with RS. Might email classicandchrome and see what they say.

Need 4 downpipes re-chroming, can't believe the prices these days, so far Niphos is the cheapest at £240 plus VAT. Anyone know any good platers at good rates?

I bought a DS one a couple of years ago, the mudguard was great but the stays weren't good. Pressing marks all along them and chrome finish nothing like as good as back in the day. Fitted my old stays to the new mudguard as the old ones were still in good condition

I was in Hawkshaw Motorcycles Ltd last year, he mainly specialises in old Triumph and BSA NOS stuff but he had an original NOS Honda front mudguard, cant remember if it was a 500 or 750 (think the 750 had larger bolt holes at the end of the stays, just need to use washers on a 500). It had the factory drill holes for a front numberplate so was pretty old but I think it was still in Honda plasic bag and looked good. Don't think he ever advertised his Honda stock so may well still be there, might be worth giving him a ring. He is based in Liverpool and mainly does mail order.

Depends if you think you might buy another in the future. Prices keep going up and you might be kicking yourself in the future if you've got to pay a lot more than what you'll get for yours now. I'd keep it and lather it in grease.

My carbs are stamped 649A, if I were to change the main jets would I need to change anything else, ie carb needles etc?

That is what my bike did look like, to be honest I don't know what the air screws are set at, I just accepted it was set up correctly when I got it back after the carbs were rebuilt.

The tank and side panels are not the originals, I still have the originals which are black and with the later styling stripes. The air filter cover does have the snorkel. I will check the carb number tomorrow. If I won't notice a significant gain I'll leave it as it is as it does run well but is a bit asthmatic at the top end.
