Afternoon all. Just doing my first oil and filter change on my bike and looking at the workshop manual it is showing a set spring. No sign of it in my filter /casing. ( unless it’s pinged off somewhere! ) I’m guessing it’s needed or can I manage without?

It's needed...as is the washer.

Thanks Julie. When you say washer is that the spring seat as shown in the workshop manual? ( page 19). No sign of that either. Is the oil filter bolt collar a separate piece or is that the part of the engine? Sorry to ask such daft questions?
-
Yes, No 6 (page 19). They usually get stuck to the filter and people throw the filter in the bin with washer still attached not realising, but you need that also. The collar is only fitted to the 350/4, we don't have a collar on the 400/4

Thank you Julie. Better dig the old filter out the bin then. 😀

Jf a PO missed out the spring chances are they missed the washer as well. Same parts on all the fours so readily available
-
Hi Bryanj. Easily missed I guess. I don’t suppose they will be an easy fix for my high oil consumption would they?
-
Doubt it mate. They were so commonly lost that when i did a lot of servicing i bought washers in 10's and springs in 5's!
