CB350/400 / Carbs Leaking
« on: April 05, 2018, 09:07:21 AM »

Having ridden the bike a bit more.. I've noticed all the carbs have a slight leak.. I think this may be having left the tap on and parked on the side stand.

I'm sure the floats are good.. but as it happens on the side I wonder if the rubber gaskets are no good?

Any thoughts

CB350/400 / You Tube of the Delkevic on my CB400f
« on: April 04, 2018, 09:59:32 AM »

A few people have asked for a video of the Delkevic.. this was taken late evening so I have tried not rev too loud so as not to offend my neighbors too much and will get some better coverage, maybe put the go pro on!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bUE0R3J7ws

Video doesn't do it justice .. I had some work colleagues rather surprised when I roared up the road through 2nd and 3rd.. I think they excpected and old bike to chug along.. as opposed to sounding more like a modern sports bike!

The baffles are in.. but now its had a few miles on it on the over run she pops and cackles lovely and feels like a 70's race bike. I need a 90 front tyre, the 100 doesnt turn in well!

CB350/400 / CB400f - My first ride..!
« on: April 03, 2018, 09:18:43 AM »
Its been a while, so many projects but finally got the last of the niggles sorted and felt confident for a run up the road and brought to work today!! , Will remove tank and rear guard ready for paint this evening and we should have a finished bike. The Delkevic at 9k sounds lovely.. but nice and quiet at 5k in 6th , gear change smooth..  battery charging nicely - felt so light compared to the Ducati!

CB350/400 / CB400f - Magnetic Coil
« on: March 16, 2018, 08:45:45 AM »

Well the CB400f has taken a back seat as I cannot get it to charge.. so after 12 months work I've set it aside for a couple of weeks as worn out.. I can see how people lose interest at 99% complete of a build!

So finally pulled into the workshop, everything checks out and appears as it should. Apart from the Rotor.. it doesnt seem to be magnetised.. which must have an effect. it was working before the strip down.. stator all ok.

Any ideas why this may be the case? I've never seen this before.

CB350/400 / CB400 - Front Brake Bleeding.
« on: February 07, 2018, 10:31:27 AM »
Hi all,

Has anyone had issues bleeding up the front brake.. I have rebuilt the caliper, new pads, new M/C so all good. I have brake pressure but not much.. unfortunately I dont have use of a compressor to assist as feel it might need a little help. All the lines are tight but I keep getting bubbles in the line so I have no idea how its getting air in.. I assume the brake switch is an area for air to get trapped. The switch works as its operating the rear light I'm just struggling to get a firm lever.

Any tips.. its off for an MOT soon so my friend can do it on his system but would be nice to turn up a little more prepared.

CB350/400 / Checking Stator
« on: February 02, 2018, 10:23:01 AM »
Hi guys.. can anyone help me with how to check my stator is working.

I've hooked up the new reg/rect and I'm getting about 12.75 up to 13v with a few revs so no where near enough.

Is there a way to check the yellow wires.. are making a current as its seems I'm down a little.. many thanks!

Project Board / Foot pegs.. for Honda CB.. options?
« on: January 31, 2018, 02:30:21 PM »
Hope I can ask this here.. I'm not sure if many of the 70's CB models use the same foot peg design but I'm keen to change the huge rubber foot rests to some more modern ones. I cannot find anywhere that lists the CB400f I wondered if anyone had any links to after market ally type pegs.

CB350/400 / cb400F - Foot pegs..
« on: January 31, 2018, 11:24:37 AM »

I wonder if anyone can help, as you can see I'm not exactly creating a restoration of my CB400F, and one original item that has to be changed are the huge rubber footpegs.

I wondered does anyone know if any other early CB models have similar mounts as some aftermarket companies do race pegs for the CB500f and trying to see what else might fit please, any help always appreciated.

Project Board / CB400f Supersport Restomod... so far.
« on: January 22, 2018, 01:25:13 PM »

I usually post in the CB400 section but thought I'd post a few pics of my CB400F project as hadnt realaised this section was here and some great projects going on.

This is my second build.. my first being an XS750..

I then acquired a CB400f, a bike I've loved for many years. The tank was the wrong colour and a lot of bodges by the OP so it came apart.. originally I'd planned a restoration but having gone to a number of shows with the XS750 and the CB400f I decided to make it my own and do a restomod type project.

Here she is in her original form, bought it for £1500 from a local guy... she looks lovely but on closer inspection needed attention!

Then the strip down began about 12 months ago.. a few images..its been slow progress with other hobbies and my son racing.

Back from Delkevic with the new exhaust! Tank in primer, will be the last thing I do I think!

Back in the workshop and final prep and engine running!

I have no idea of plans for the rear mudguard and light but I pick the seat up on Thursday which is based on the original base but I shortened it a little and so I hope it turns out ok. Once the seat is on I cna get her outside and think about it with a cuppa or two!

Tank - the plan is Audi RS4 grey, with a gloss black centre stripe and two cream pinstripes.. I have deliberated over colour since the start!

Lots of small jobs to do.. and its been a tough build so far engine ran really well and so apart from valves check, new cam chain, carb total restoration and a full service I've left it alone as she ran lovely!

CB350/400 / Gear selector return ?
« on: January 12, 2018, 10:06:34 AM »

Before the strip down the bike ran great.. and gears were spot on (one of the better aspects) however since stripping the bike I've come to install the chain and gear selector and for some reason I've lost the spring back between gear selctions.

It will go into 1st and Neutral, but on selecting 1st, if I pull up the lever sticks in position rather than spring back to its original position. Its ok selecting down to 1st but it sticks going up. Strangely my Kickstart that worked lovely also now does not retract.

I know the gear selector spring is prone for going but odd that it was working.. could it be lack of oil as the engine has been fully drained and moved all over the place so perhaps the seal has dried up.. and it hasnt been run in gear at all?

Any ideas..before I start pulling apart?

CB350/400 / CB400 - anyone have a rear chain stop?
« on: January 05, 2018, 03:53:26 PM »

Many thanks.

CB350/400 / Cam chain.. CB400f
« on: January 02, 2018, 02:05:48 PM »
Happy New year all... well had some time to tinker and it seems my adjuster bolts are doing nothing at all. The lower lock nut (m6/m8) screws in then stops and does nothing. The blanking hole above containing the rod end also has no effect if push from the top with a screwdriver.

However the cam chain rattle is very minimal.. and once the revs hop up she sounds gorgeous.

So firstly does anyone have or notice a little noise at idle.. ?

I've had the camcover off last night.. the adjuster (sliders) are a little worn but minimal. When undoing the two (m6 / 10mm ) bolts the tensioner pops up, so when pushed down clearly the horseshoe tensioner is working as its pushing the opposing tensioner into the chain chain, but the chain is still a little slack. I fear my adjuster is stuck..

I really dont wish to split the cases right now.. I wonder if putting on the new cam chain that I have will suffice, assuming the adjuster is locked at a certain point. Any thoughts..

I have read some people lightly know the end of the rod to dislodge the adjuster but unsure of this!

CB350/400 / CB400 - Upper Blanking Bolt
« on: December 21, 2017, 09:18:52 AM »

Right.. engine running well.. just needed cam chain adjusting.. what I thought was am adjuster bolt turned out to be an M6 X 12mm bolt hence my cam chain was rather slack.

However where the adjuster push rod locates I'm clearly missing the blanking bolt.. I can see the end of what is the adjuster rod.. It looks like an M8 thread.. I'm assuming I can just pop a suitable M8 bolt in here?

Any ideas.. ?

CB350/400 / Bike running! A good start..!
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:20:59 AM »

Well I'm still along way from heading off into the sunset but we have a running bike finally!

Plumbed in some fuel , and wired up the new coils, a few final checks and she fired up, started on two, then 3 and then that gorgeous 4 sound as all came on song! My new gauges working well and oil light went out so seems good.

idled fine and revved well.. sounds clean and crisp with the Delkevic.. didnt run her long as only had a little fuel in the tank but all good. The top end does have a bit of a metallic rattle at idle, but smooth when opened up. I wonder if this is the cam chain? Carbs are only bench tested so lots to do.

Only other issue was a small fuel leaked which I hope I've fixed but it damaged a little bit of paint.. it can be sorted!

Either way a running bike after a year..and electronics holding up, I need to see if we are getting charge so will test this evening... as I've messed around alot and have an aftermarket combo rectifer in place.. :-\

CB350/400 / CB400f - Greem/red (starter safety wire)
« on: December 11, 2017, 09:03:09 AM »

Having quite a few issues with the wiring loom but finally getting things working using a multimeter and diagrams, unfortunately a PO has used different wires and so I have had to track them back...  the final puzzle is the Green and red wire - This is the starter safety wire and was changed to brown half way down the loom.  I cannot see on the bike where this connects up the loom away from the electrics panel, I seem to recall the original wire was earthed in the headlamp unit but cannot be sure.

Can anyone shed any light on where this connects and its fucntion. The bike cranks ok but I wasnt aware the CB400f had a safety circuit for starting! Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
