CB350/400 / CB400f Breather pipes
« on: December 05, 2017, 04:00:02 PM »
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this, I cannot for the life of me remember the breather pipe set up on my 400 so apologies if this is a stupid question but mine were all perished and fell apart.

Does the cam breather route to the airbox (via the 2nd inlet on the plastic chamber)? I'm assuming it should. I can see the airbox and chamber both have vertical breathers so these must exit straight out. However following the cam breather pipe... does this use the T piece and go to the airbox only (my T piece is blocked off) or should it us the T piece and connect to the airbox and also exit out?

I hope this makes sense, its just I'm making new breather pipes and want to cut it first time correctly!

CB350/400 / Wiring and electrics.. looking better!
« on: December 01, 2017, 09:38:58 AM »

Well as my second ever restoration this bike is throwing up challenges all the time...  but we have gone from a mess of 40 year old wiring and bodge jobs from previous owners to something that I'm pleased with.. there is very little room to make these neat and hide wiring but I think its the best I can do.

I'm moving up the loom now .. and I will be shortening it to make the wiring as minimal and neat as possible.. as quite a few connectors not required.

I have a love hate with wiring...

CB350/400 / Busy weekend on the 400/4
« on: November 27, 2017, 11:01:46 AM »
Been busy this weekend, finally re painted the engine.. came out really well.

Delkevic exhaust now all fitted, carbs and airboxes in and I made a bracket for the rectifer/regulator which fits perfect.

This week its all about getting the loom in and secured, along with making plans to perhaps have it running next weekend!! A lot of the hardwork has been done so feels good to see it coming together finally.. i also need to get the modified seat base off to the trimmers... and at some point need to decide on tank colour!!

CB350/400 / Putting airbox in..
« on: November 20, 2017, 01:38:57 PM »

The recent engine post remind me of a query.. I seem to recall the plastic air box chamber was a fiddle to get in and out.

Does anyone know the best order to install, for example is it best engine first, carbs, plastic air chamber and lastly the air filter box.. through the frame triangle.

I ask as I'm just preparing all of these components ready for the install this week!

CB350/400 / Carbs finished! my project is starting to reward!. .CB400
« on: November 15, 2017, 05:01:19 PM »

Its been a roller coaster doing this CB400.. and at times I've got dis-heartened.. with costs, constant problems and hard work.. and only the other day I thought about walking away for a bit but I've finally finished my CB400/4 Carbs, I decided not to get the casings vapor blasted as I liked the matt look apart from that they are literally brand new with every part changed or zinc plated, so its given me a boost!

I was trying to find a pic of them at the strip down and found this one.. also shows how bad the engine was.. let alone the wiring loom.! I'm very close to getting her all back together.

Before....

CB350/400 / CB400 - Twin discs? thoughts
« on: November 13, 2017, 08:50:37 AM »

I wondered if anyone on here had knowledge if a twin disc set up is possible on the CB400f.

I guess its feasable to use another left leg of a cb400f and caliper on the right side? The disc would then be retained using the original bolts, potentially a spacer, I'm already removing the speedo cable as running a GPS speedo..  a brake pipe junction perhaps uprated MS.

Either way I wondered if it had been covered before..  this will be phase 2 of the project but thinking of collecting a few bits.

So I re tapped a couple last year... painted up engine, new bolts in and just nothing left to get a bolt tight enough... 3 have gone! I should have addressed this but thought it would be ok. engine all painted and in the bike!

Anyone had these helicoiled.. ? I suppose best with engine out.. one of the cuplrits is right under the centre of the frame!!

I'm looking at new coils.. but I'm after ones that I can change the HT leads on so found a decent supplier but does anyone know if 3ohms is the std output? I do plan to run the DS electronic ignition but thats it so I'm assuming ok.

Any thoughts on the 3ohms, thank you.

CB350/400 / Gear lever.. play ? cb400
« on: October 16, 2017, 04:00:10 PM »
Hi all, after some help.

The gear lever pivot that locates to the shaft on the left footpeg mount is worn. Inside the chrome gear lever its worn so I have quite a lot of play, the foot peg mount seems ok. I can find a new option with DS parts so wondered if any success as no doubt others have experienced this as it must be a common area for wear.

The lever is in excellent condition otherwise so I could get it machined and an insert made... but this cost my be greater than a new parts/

Any thoughts appreciated!

CB350/400 / Rear Brake Return Spring - CB400f
« on: October 04, 2017, 03:40:53 PM »

So I've come to re install the rear brake lever and spring.. I must admit I'm a bit stuck as to the location of the spring.. I'll try and get a photo later, I'm not sure if all Cb400F's locate the same but mine locates into a hole in the frame on the one end and the other clamps around the brake lever arm - its here where I'm lost.

It only seems to locate by nestling up to the back of the side of the arm for the brake light switch.. this location allows the brake some spring and it works but there is no tension at all.

I must be locating it wrong as I have no pre load on the spring.. any advice much appreciated as I'm trying to be careful with all the fresh paint.. thanks

CB350/400 / cb400f - Centre Stand
« on: October 03, 2017, 11:23:57 AM »
Hi all, can someone help..  I've had the frame all done on my CB400f and my painter took the stand off. We have now relised there must be two spacers/collars to support the stand, I've found one.. but the shaft is tapered on the other side.. should there be two collars please?

Anyone that can help would be great!

I may only run a side stand on this bike but I still want all the parts.
