Member 4 Sales / CB500/4 carb sets First set SOLD
« on: January 19, 2024, 06:56:18 PM »
Hi all, I have two carb sets that I'm taking to Kempton tomorrow, but if you aren't local, please message me asap and we can sort postage. This is the first set, all complete with manifolds and cables. All I have done is pop one float bowl off to see. These are for restoration obviously, though they seem to open/close nicely.
I think a fair price, or at least a point to start talking, is £140.

I am intending to take to Kempton on Saturday the CB500/4 engine that came with the job lot of Honda bits. It is very scruffy, dirty and seized. Photos give a good guide. Number starts CB500E201****
I would think it's worth £200, I 'may' be able to deliver locally, West side of London, Surrey/Hants/Berks border.

I will also have some carbs, mudguards, rear chain guards and a couple of pairs of shocks with me, plus some boxes that will need rummaging through.
Cheers, Tony.

Thanks for the various encouraging comments. In no particular order....

Ash, yes, the chrome tank panels are satin polished at the knee cut-outs where later bikes would have rubber knee grips.

I have been a VJMC member since 1987 - gradually putting the word out via any source I can think of - with patience, most parts turn up eventually.

Exhausts - Later C72 exhausts do turn up every now and again, and can probably be used on the earlier C71, but correct C71 items are another matter.

Julie, I suspect this year for that cuppa (on the C71 Dream) would be quite an achievement; but who knows.....

Tony B. - Interesting 1960 - 1962 Dream (well, pre "A" registration anyway). I have to ask, what are your plans for your C72 project?
Move it on (perhaps PM me?), or do something with it?

Thanks all for your interest - Chris R

Good luck Tony. I was going to go but most of my mates have cried off (I tend to catch up @ Kempton)
Anything to do with the cold? I'll be there come what may, thermals and wooly hat de rigeur!

Out & About / Kempton this Saturday
« on: January 16, 2024, 04:07:32 PM »
Hi all, I will have my usual stall at this Saturday's (20th) Kempton Park autojumble. I usually have mainly British bits, but this Saturday I hope to take as much of the Honda stuff that we cleared out of a house clearance just before Christmas. Anyone who wants to have a rummage is welcome. I've already sold some side panels, a rear light bracket and a rev counter to several guys on here. I have no idea how much of some of this stuff is worth, so am scouring eBay etc to try and gauge prices. I am trying to be fair, but without doing myself a disservice. Most of it is Honda CB500/4, but with a possible smattering of other bits.
I'm on stall 114, back against the race course, and around the middle of the line. My wife's Tesla that I'm borrowing should stand out against all the vans!  ;D
Just a taster, one of several sets of carbs, complete with manifolds and cables.

Interesting, in amongst the job lot of Honda bits I came upon recently is this......

I had a CR250RS, W reg, back in the early Nineties. Used it for commuting for less than a year. Can't remember why I sold it, but to be honest it was a nice bike, great fun on twisty A roads. The chain and sprockets never used to last too long on them, the giveaway was a bad vibration through the left footpeg.
That's weird, thought I was replying to a different thread  ???

Where's My Old Bike? / Red 400/4 (now black?), NDP 85R

Hi all, on my avatar, my original 400/4, (on my other thread, was a Jock Kerr 250/4 for a while until I passed my test). I then rode it as a 400 for a year, and sold it after painting it black. Years later, late '90s I think, I saw it at a local pub, now red again, but with Comstar wheels. I've just checked on Direct.Gov and saw the latest logbook was issued in January this year! Though still listed as black. So, she's still out there, anyone on here?
Cheers, Tony.

So was that to get around the 250cc rule for L plates yet still have four cylinders?
Might have been easier to go for a 250 Dream or DupercSport they were pretty nippy back in the day.
One of the arguments put forward by Kerr's, was that you didn't need to change bikes, especially back in those days with HP etc. You could have the same bike first as a 250, then a 400 when you passed your test, and then later use one of their big bore kits, or other tuning goodies. They did all sorts, including turbo kits, though mainly for the bigger fours.
I wonder if anyone on this forum had any experience of Jock Kerr's?
