CB350/400 / Re: CB400 - Front Brake Bleeding.
« on: February 07, 2018, 10:42:42 AM »
All I can suggest is fill the reservoir slowly so you don't introduce bubbles there. Keep pushing the fluid through and make sure you close the bleed valve while still squeezing the brake lever each time.
It should work once enough has gone through. Patience required.

I believe some manufacturers have used downpipes of slightly different diameters to equalise back pressure where they couldn't equalise the lengths.

Project Board / Re: Foot pegs.. for Honda CB.. options?
« on: February 04, 2018, 04:21:46 PM »
Here are pics of my footpegs. They're a lot lighter and slimmer than the originals.
The pivot is inboard and the peg is bolted to the duralumin extension piece, but it could be welded to it for a cleaner look.

I've used Bikeit Honda cbr/vfr pegs which are a lot slimmer. I used a spring on the left peg. The right peg is longer to clear the kickstart so I made an extension piece and a sprung ball and plate to hold it up when the kickstart is used. I'll post photos when I have them .

Misc / Open / Re: Best source for a decent M10x1.25 Die
« on: January 29, 2018, 12:26:49 AM »
Found I have  decent quality makes (Hall,Presto ect) of M10x1.5 & M10x1.0  dies but not M10x1.25  GRR!  Basically I have quite a few Honda fasteners to cut down for my CB72 and CB450K0 and thread.

RGP750 suggested these people which may be OK ... anyone else recommend a decent source at 'reasonable' money & up to the job?

My father taught me that if you're cutting the length of bolts or screws down you can do without a die if you're careful. Wind 2 nuts up the screw to above where you need to cut, tighten them together enough to lock. The nuts help to hold the screw in the vice when clamped. After cutting off the extra length, carefully file the burr off the end and then unwind the nuts off the screw. They 'clean' the thread end as they come off. Works a treat. Any last tidying can be done with a needle file.

Reading the full description they are a universal type fit, not really designed for our specific models. I can't imagine they're very good at that price and need modifying. You pay yr money you take yr choice.  ;)

Tricks & Tips / Re: Love this thead

I haven't started any of my 500 engines for over 30 years, so no chance of looking. I do have a few spare crankcases lying around, next time I see one I'll drop some fluid down the oil pump outlet and see where it comes out.

I remember the oil filter bolt quite well, certainly remember the way the valve was held in but never had the need to remove the valve. I seemed to recall the spring is the first thing fitted, then the washer, then the filter not the other way round as you explain it. It was why most people lost the washer when changing the filter as you couldn't see it under the filter and the pressure used to stick it to the filter sealing rubber and got thrown away with the filter, that would make the valve being fitted just under the head of the bolt not near the crankcase. If my recollection is correct of course.
I think you're confusing the pressure relief valve with the big spring that fits over the bolt. Different thing altogether.  :o

Be careful when putting grippers on fences and gates etc. If Johnny their cuts his hands on them whilst trying to burgle you and can actually sue you for his injuries! If you place a notice on the public side warning of the danger they have no redress. This is why you no longer see barb wire on fencing. Any deterrent must be visible or notified (electric fences one example).  The country has gone mad and favours the criminal rather then the potential victim, it's the PC brigade again! A mate of mine spreads filthy old tractor grease over the top of his fence, once you get that all over your hands and clothes you'd want to get away sharpish as you've left your fingerprints in the grease, perfect for the police 👌.
Good news you are back in operation though Roy.

I don't care if little Johnny low life get's hurt, i can live with that, and if he breaks in while i am there, well use your imagination, this country may have gone mad , but i can get madder.

Well said! 😈

If you feel sure the spare moped is not nicked I don't see a problem.
Have it for the spare parts. If you're not sure about scrapping it, give the local scrap yard a ring. He'll tell you if he's able to take it without v5. Hth.
