CB350/400 / Re: My New Project arrives after a 44 year wait!

That's a nice looking 400 you have rebuilt Dave,  you must be well pleased with how it's looking so far.
Love the flow of the original froont pipes.

First start up can't be too far away!

Yesterday I fitted the correct screws that Ken sent me to the points base plate - I set up the static timing using the bulb method as per the Haynes Manual it took me the best part of an hour to end up with the right points gap range & set the timing something close to where it ought to be.  I cranked the engine over before fitting the plugs - oil light went out as it should.
I filled up my temporary petrol tank - first bonus was there was no float flooding when I opened the petrol line tap.
Cleaned & fitted the PO's NGK D7EA plugs.
I made sure I had the correct HT leads after my 400 fiasco.

tbh it took a bit of cranking before she first fired up then all was good - no nasty noises - she sounds so different to my 400.
Next job is the dynamic timing, check the camshafts for oil splash then tweak the carbs if needed as so far only done a bench sych.

Very interesting video.

I found that the DS ones in my 400 soon started to sqeal - I replaced them with a standard road use Brembo Carbon/Ceramic pads that I tappered on the leading edges - back in 2022 Brembo's were £34 delivered.
I found the Brembo pads had a nice progressive feel to them.  I now have them on my 500 as well.

Like the choice of tyres I think it's quite subjective and dependent on riding style - nothing wrong with the DS ones they function OK - no doubt the noise can be fixed with some tapering of the leading edge & disc face cleaning.

My BiL removed mine using one of these on my 400 it removes the bottom race without causing any damage .
Ideal if you fit a new bottom race and then need to remove it to fit a shim underneath.
I bought one for myself as it was not expensive when I was fitting a taper roller kit to my 500. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403899872756

Alternatively as you described plus heat might help.

The listing is most likely an ex- member who was indirectly driven to leave the forum - Max.

I have his email address pm me if you want it. If you send me your email address i willl forward it to Max on the understand that you do not share it to anyone without Max's consent.

Max also makes SS wheel & engine spacers for the 400 & 500s his products are excellently made.

I'd never heard of Dropbox until we had our house fire.

The firm who cleared our house of all it's contents took photos of everything that was in the house including individual items of clothing to a climate controlled  storage facility. All the photographs plus the manual records were on their drop box site that we were given access to for our home whilst we dealt with our insurance claim.

I briefly had my own free drop box account to copy & store the photos until our claim was settled.

The firm (appointed by our independant loss assesors) mainly dealt with flood damaged property as well as serious house fire victims. They were a brilliant firm owned by a local businessman.

Should anyone here be unfortunate enough to have a serious house fire I would highly recommend you appoint an independent loss assessor (LA) they basically take away all the pain of dealing with a house insurance company for a large claim. (Ours was around £190k plus VAT  for buiding & contents)

The Fire Service (FS) Incident Commander (who Wendy use to work with before he joined the FS) gave us advice about seeking our own LA . It was one of the best pieces of free advice I have ever been given. We were inundated with calls from a variety of firms to act as our LA. The Incident Commander gave us a business card for a Birmingham Based Charity who in turn pointed us in the right direction for appointing our own LA.

I change  my Broadband provider almost every time it's out of contract so I use a Gmail address & outlook to avoid the email trap.
I was a loyal customer for almost 20 years with VM but they seem unable to reward loyal customers in the long term.

Most of my internet is hard wired so little to change with Wi-Fi at home.

Not as impactive for me but I had a similar issue with my free Flickr account due to a combination of loosing my old ntlworld email address and password.

In the end I gave up and opened a new account using my  new email address - lost a load of photos forever.

My experience on cars before individual coil packs arrived was that many used resistor caps and resistor plugs without problems with one coil on 4 & 6 cylinder engines so it's a new thing for me to consider it.
